The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has declared a vacancy for the position of Director-General, which was held by Ezra Chiloba who resigned.

In a notice on Friday, October 27, the authority revealed that it is seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to serve as the Director General.

"The Director General is responsible for providing strategic and visionary leadership and has full operational leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic business plans for the authority," the notice read in part.

CA further revealed that those interested in applying for the position should be holders of a bachelor's Degree in any of the following: Telecommunications, Information Technology, Applied and Physical Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences: business-related fields, or equivalent qualification.

They are also required to have a minimum of 10 years of experience, five of which should be in senior management. 

One must also have a strong track record in regulatory, telecommunications, ICT or broadcasting sectors.

Upon appointment, the candidate will report to the board of directors and provide CA with the leadership, expertise, and strategic direction needed to effectively regulate, promote, and lead Kenya's technology, communications, and broadcasting sector.

The DG will also serve as the primary point of contact for industry stakeholders, government bodies, and international organizations.

He or she will also be tasked with ensuring that industry players comply with regulatory standards and act in the public interest, which is crucial for maintaining a fair and competitive marketplace.

"The DG must possess the skills and determination. to enforce regulations, address violations, and protect consumers. While ensuring compliance with the laws of Kenya," added the notice.

The DG should also have the ability to manage the organization's finances and human resources effectively to ensure operational efficiency and long-term stability and maintain a conducive work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates skilled and talented employees while fostering a corporate culture that promotes the implementation of ethical and good corporate governance practices.

He or she will also charged with fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement within the organization.

Chiloba resigned from the position on October 18, 2023, shortly after he was suspended over graft allegations on September 18, 2023.

Prior to his suspension, the former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO had served at the helm of CA for two years.
