The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), headed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, is set to officially launch later this month.

On Tuesday, June 3, Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala said they’re currently looking for a new venue and will announce the updated details soon.

The original launch, scheduled for the same day at Kasarani Stadium, had to be called off after they failed to secure approval to use the venue.

Additionally, Malala stated that the party has established different structures and has resolved to establish the aspirant forum.

“We want to take this opportunity to communicate with our membership. That we have resolved and we are going to relaunch the party within the month, and we are looking for an alternative venue, which will be communicated in due course,” Malala said.

“We have established different structures per our constitution. We are going to establish the aspirant forum. We have all the counties of the Republic of Kenya forming an aspirant forum which eventually will culminate in a membership drive."

Malala said the event is expected to draw around 5,000 people, including party members, supporters, guests, and media.

He emphasised that no individual or aspiring candidate will be allowed to open party offices without getting the green light from the National Executive Council.

According to Malala, all party offices will be managed by the National Secretariat under the leadership of the Secretary General.

“We have also agreed that we will have party offices across the country. In the recent past, after we unveiled our party, we have had several people opening up the offices everywhere.

“We have decided that the national executive council we are not going to allow anybody or any aspirant to open party offices. Party offices will be regulated by the National Secretariat, headed by the Secretary General,” he continued.

The party tried to book the venue for a steep Ksh3.7 million, planning to use it for speeches, performances, and interactive sessions to introduce its vision, manifesto, and leadership to the Kenyan public.

On May 27, Sports Kenya Acting Director General Gabriel Komora, in response to the party, revealed that the facility would not be made available for the highly anticipated launch on June 3 owing to bookings made by sports teams beforehand.

Furthermore, Komora stated that no further bookings would be done for the facility due to preparations for the upcoming Championships for African Nations (CHAN) 2024, which will see the premises be used for the sports tournament.
