Ministry of Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary (CS) Florence Bore on Sunday, June 18 uncovered intrigues behind a Ksh120 million Karen house tussle with a company associated with Gatanga Member of Parliament, Edward Muriu.

While responding to media reports regarding the sale and purchase transaction of the palatial house in a statement, the CS in President William Ruto's administration revealed that she entered into an agreement to purchase the property at a negotiated and agreed purchase price.

As a result, she revealed that she signed her part of the agreement for sale and transmitted the agreement through her lawyers to the seller's lawyers for signing on their end.

"Their lawyers, Muriu Mungai & Company (MMC Asafo), acknowledged receipt of the signed agreement for sale by stamping on the forwarding letter by my Advocates.

"In compliance with the respective clauses of the agreement, I sourced a 10 per cent deposit from my Sacco and paid directly to the Vendor's lawyers' account via RTGS. It was a term in the agreement for sale that the completion period of the transaction was 90 days from the date of signing the agreement," she stated in part.

The two parties thus agreed that CS Bore occupies the house while she retreated to seek a mortgage facility for the balance.

She added that she legitimately expected to obtain the mortgage facility within the agreed transaction period of 90 days.

"Unfortunately, in an astounding weave of events, in less than 30 days of the agreement, Hon. Edward Muriu and his Wife attempted to unlawfully evict my children from the house while I was out of the Country. They were accompanied by armed goons necessitating the need for police presence on the premises.

"For a colleague in leadership to take advantage of my absence from the country to run a hate campaign instead of waiting to engage me upon return is not only queer but baffling," she pointed an accusing finger at the Murang'a MP.

CS Bore further faulted what she termed as dramatized and sensational allegations fabricated to unlawfully dissociate from the agreement ostensibly on the basis of finding a "better deal".

"The transaction was a private engagement between a willing seller and a willing buyer, both parties duly represented by lawyers in total conformity with the law. The media pitch was therefore unwarranted and ancillary to the transaction," she added.

CS Bore's statement came after Muriu put speculation to rest and publicised her identity on Twitter, adding that over 100 police officers who were sent assaulted his workers as the CS occupied the mansion.

“For (the) record, The CS who illegally broke into and occupied our Family House, in Amara Ridge, Karen, sent a contingent of over 100 police officers who brutally assaulted my workers is none other than CS Florence Chepngetich Bore. CS Labour and Social Protection.” the lawmaker alleged.

The whole saga began on Friday, June 16, after a contingent of police officers moved in and confronted Peter Kariuki, a contractor hired by the MP to carry out repairs at the house.

The MP's wife, who spoke to the media, revealed that she sent a team of workers for a cleaning exercise at the mansion after the CS had expressed interest in purchasing it.

She maintained that she encountered heavy security presence in Karen much to her surprise, with the contractor allegedly manhandled and barred from accessing the premises, which she alleged was occupied by the Cabinet Secretary (CS).

She accused the CS of taking advantage of their absence to move to the house illegally, further revealing that the Cabinet member had reportedly approached the MP with an offer to buy the house for Ksh90 million.

However, on turning down the offer, the house owner maintained that the house was priced at Ksh120 million.

"The CS showed interest in the house. She even came to my home and gave us an offer of Ksh90 million. We told her the house's price is Ksh120 million.

"Thereafter, I travelled to the US for my daughter's graduation. When I came back on Wednesday, June 14, I brought my people to come and clean my house and mow the lawn. To my shock, the house was already occupied," she added.

Police intervened during the standoff and after which, the MP had filed a police report as well as contemplated suing the CS for trespassing and damages.

The entire saga threatened to drag Water Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome but she distanced herself from the claims on Saturday, June 17, insisting that "That story of a house in Karen involving a CS, leave me out. I'm not the one. Sorry, Kenyans on Twitter. You missed this one."
