Nairobi private investigator, Jane Mugo, has explained why she had to terminate her low-key engagement with a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier after just four months.

In a long Facebook post on Wednesday, October 26, the tough-stance detective revealed that she received messages of appreciation from her followers after announcing her engagement to the officer identified as Boaz Romano on Tuesday, July 12.

However, she also received deceitful messages from four women on the day of the announcement who expressed their bitterness on the matter.

"When I posted about my engagement in July, I received congratulatory messages from my followers, media streams enemies, family and friends. Mad respect for you all.

"The same day I received DMs (disturbing SMS) and photos from four women: USA, Pokot, Kitale and Kisumu," she exposed.

Despite their jealousy, Mugo noted that they were honest with him as Romano had a history of misusing them online and promising to marry them without meeting them physically as he was outside the country.

By then, she was in hospital after she was abducted on her way to Bungoma from Nairobi when unknown men blocked her vehicle at the Ainabkoi - Kapsabet junction at around 6:30 p.m. and inflicted injuries on her hands and head using a machete, and sped off with her vehicle.

Mugo later got engaged in campaigns leading up to the August 9 general elections as she was running for the position of Woman Representative in Kirinyanga County but lost in the nominations stage. Nonetheless, the two kept talking online.

"They were all bitter but honest to me because this guy had played them online and promised marriages. In fact, he was outside Kenya he had not met them. All this happened when I was bedridden in a hospital after being kidnap and I later joined campaigns so I was busy but we spoke daily.

"He did it online. I choose to ignore them because I was determined to make my marriage stand," she added.

In October, the rumours were confirmed to her by his schoolmates, neighbours and his mother that he had not changed his behaviour, even upon returning to Kenya.

Mugo accused him of lying to everyone in his life and disregarding them to please her. While confirming that she is now single, she vowed to never go searching for another man in her life again.

"To me, it's not about my happiness, but you cannot hurt your own mother, ex women, blood children, lie about your career and you treat me like a queen. A woman is crying and except to survive I respect hearts. I have dignity.

"I'm confirming that am single, busy, happy, and not searching. I'm returning the ring and all gifts to the sender. It's not worth fighting for. You still claim to love and respect me," she stated.

She thanked everyone from Romano's colleagues at KDF to her followers and family for warning her about his character before it was too late.

Mugo has two children from her previous relationship. BBC in their investigative series whereby she went viral in January 2021, took a special look into the little-known life of the private detective, known amongst those in her profession who keep many of their details under wraps.

She lives in a highly-guarded compound on the outskirts of Nairobi, coupled with four hawk-eyed bodyguards, two dogs on the compound among four that she owns and many cameras around the compound and inside her house.
