Kenyan athlete and two-time Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon has broken her own 1500m world record following her victory in Paris, France.
The athlete won the Paris Diamond League on Sunday, July 7 with a time of 3:49.04, which is better than the 3:49.11 she set during a Diamond League meet in Florence, Italy, on June 2, 2023.
"Faith Kipyegon breaks her own 1500m world record to finish off the Paris Diamond League in historic style," World Athletics announced, however noting that the victory is subject to the usual ratification procedures.
Kipyegon defeated Jessica Hull from Australia who came in second with a time of 3:50.83.

Speaking in an earlier interview with World Athletics, Kipyegon revealed that she was making a comeback in the races with an injury though she expressed that it would not stop her from eventually retaining her title.
"I am really excited to be in Paris this year. You know, coming back with an injury and then running trials and being here in Paris, it is just really amazing," she stated.
"At first, when I got injured I was a little bit scared and you know when it comes to the Olympics and you have a little bit of irritation there and you are like 'yeah, it is the Olympic year and I want to go and defend my title, and now I have a little bit of problem but I really take it easy."
Kipyegon capped off a successful 2023 which saw her break three world records; the world mile, 1500m race and 5000m race.
She also won two world titles, becoming the first woman to win both 1500m and 5000m titles in a single world championship competition.
Unrelenting, Kipyegon achieved yet another milestone at the Paris Diamond League on June 9, triumphing in the 5,000-metre race with a record-breaking time of 14.05.20, earning her a noteworthy cash prize of Ksh1.5 million.
In the 2023 World Athletics Awards held in Monte Carlo, Monaco, Kipyegon was named the Female World Athlete of the Year in track events.
During the Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12, 2023, President William Ruto conferred her the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH), the country’s highest-ever honour.
"Today, I have conferred upon our world-beating athlete Faith Kipyegon the status of Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart, the highest honour our country awards its citizens who illuminate the path of excellence," he stated while addressing the nation at Uhuru Gardens.
