US-based Kenyan comedienne and internet sensation Elsa Majimbo is excited after she acquired a new Tesla Model Y electric car priced at close to Ksh8 million.

She took to Twitter on Friday, November 25 to show off her sleek new ride which is black in colour, matching the colour of her hoodie that she was captured wearing.

While embracing her new investment, she captioned “Bessy with a Tessy", as a way of celebrating her new milestone having acquired an apartment in the state of California a few months ago.

The Tesla Model Y brings what everyone loves about the Tesla brand to a practical compact crossover. This is essentially an SUV version of the Tesla Model 3 with similar styling inside and out, engaging performance, and excellent range.

The significant differences are a standard dual-motor, AWD configuration, a roomier interior, and optional three-row seating in the Model Y.

According to the official Tesla website, the Model Y achieved National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 5-star safety ratings in every category and subcategory. NHTSA is the US version of Kenya's National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

It also received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick+ award, with top ratings in all crashworthiness and front crash prevention categories. The car features a rigid structure, impact protection and a low centre of gravity.

Model Y provides maximum versatility, meaning it is able to carry seven passengers and their cargo. Each second-row seat folds flat independently, creating flexible storage for skis, furniture, luggage and more and a liftgate opens to a low trunk floor that makes loading and unloading easy and quick.

Tesla All-Wheel Drive (AWD) has two ultra-responsive, independent electric motors that digitally control torque to the front and rear wheels for far better handling, traction and stability control. Model Y is therefore capable in rain, snow, mud and off-road.

"Model Y is fully electric, so you never need to visit a gas station again. If you charge overnight at home, you can wake up to a full battery every morning.

"And when you’re on the road, it’s easy to plug in along the way—at any public station or with the Tesla charging network. We currently have over 35,000 Superchargers worldwide, with six new locations opening every week," Tesla describes in part.

With an elevated seating position and low dash, the driver has a commanding view of the road ahead. The interior of Model Y is simple and clean, with a 15-inch touch screen, an immersive sound system and an expansive all-glass roof that creates extra headroom and provides a seamless view of the sky.

The electric car has a top speed of 249.4 km/hr and an impressive range of 531 kilometres as well as a 0-100 km/hr time of 4.8 seconds. It features AC induction electric motors w/75-kWh battery pack, 447 horsepower (estimated) and an estimated 509.78755 Newton-Meter (N/m).

To import one, the long-range version will set you back Ksh7.95 million before tax.
