A joint effort by Kisumu County and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) firefighters are on site trying to contain the fire.

Kisumu Central MP-elect Joshua Oron was also in the school with his team to help put out the fire.

No injuries, nor casualties were reported from the morning fire incident.

The students could be seen with their personal belongings removed from their dormitories, which they were asked to remove as a precaution out of fear that the fire could spread to neighbouring buildings.

The cause of it was not yet established by the time of publication. It was also not established if the students were in the classrooms at the time of the fire since it occurred during the weekend.

Kisumu Central Sub-county Police Commandant Jactone Mango said investigations are underway and he is optimistic that they will find the cause of the fire.

It comes two days after schools resumed following the August 9 elections, a break that lasted two weeks.

The school has been a victim of previous fire incidents. A fire that broke out on January 26, 2021, prompted police to launch investigations into what was a suspected arson attempt.

The fire incident was reported in one of the school’s temporary dormitories which house 50 students. It was successfully put out by firefighters from the country government before spreading to adjacent buildings.

Kisumu Chief Fire Officer Karoli Anyumba said although no property was salvaged from the burning dormitory, there was no casualty reported.

The dormitory was put up as an extra measure to decongest the school as part of the COVID-19 protocols issued by the Ministry of Education.

The arson attempt was linked to unrest due to the prohibition of television by the institution’s management.
