Police officers on Tuesday, July 25 arrested a househelp who is suspected to have stabbed Kilifi Chief County Officer for Fisheries and Blue Economy, Rahab Karisa to death.

The suspect, Diana Wanyonyi, was arrested while trying to cross over to neighbouring Uganda from the Busia border.

According to detectives investigating the case, Wanyonyi was arrested on Tuesday at 3 am after she sought directions to cross into the neighbouring country and arranged for a motorbike to facilitate her escape.

However, the boda boda rider, upon noticing her carrying her belongings, alerted police officers in Busia who moved in to arrest her just as she was about to cross the porous border.

"The rider upon alerting the officers notified their counterparts from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who took her in custody at Busia police station for profiling," an investigating officer aware of the arrest told K24.

The fugitive was escorted to Kilifi where she will be required to record her statements before being arraigned in court to face murder charges. This was after she was detained at the border office till 6 am.

On Friday, July 21, Karisa's husband, Maxwell Mmera opened up on a confrontation his wife had with her house help which led to the latter allegedly stabbing her to death.

The confrontation which occurred on Wednesday, July 19 occurred after Karisa returned from Europe and revolved around household items that reportedly went missing when she was away.

Karisa had flown into the country and was unable to join her husband right after due to the ongoing Azimio la Umoja anti-government demonstrations that caused widespread disruptions countrywide.

The deceased had threatened to report the house help to the authorities before she went to bed, not knowing that this would be her last night, according to her husband.

The househelp would on Thursday morning, July 20 allegedly attack her employer while she was asleep in the master bedroom instead of avoiding being arrested by police.

"You didn't deserve it, you that cannot hurt a fly, you didn't. And your only mistake being, asking a housegirl who has stolen from you while you were away and mentioning to her that the following day you'd take her to the police.

"The brutal animal instead of just escaping peacefully, wakes up and stabs you while you are sleeping - that was so painful my love, I am sorry baby I couldn't protect you. You just jetted in and couldn't come to me coz of Maandamano, you chose a connecting flight only to die the same night," Mmera painfully narrated on his social media pages.

A few days later, Mmera penned another heartfelt tribute to his late wife, while uncovering details regarding her autopsy.

He revealed that there was a 13cm deep cut inside at her back below the scapula with a v-cut (meaning either double stab or stab and side pull, as per the pathologist), straight into the artery and part of the lung.

He expressed regret that he was not able to protect his wife who he described as a friend and the love of his life. Mmera revealed that they were to meet on June 22 (two days after her death) to celebrate her birthday.

"Losing you means a whole load of loss that complimented me and covered our family, I have lost someone who multitasks as a lover, a wife, a mum, a comforter, solace, the better financial manager of the house, a better planner of the house, the moderater of the house, the empathizer, the most thoughtful thinker, I could say an endless list.

"Those are the parts I lose as a part of us, parts I don't know how to piece together or replace. I am incomplete without you mummy, Happy Birthday as you rest in peace love," Mmera wrote.
