"Habakkuk 2:3. May you serve with unwavering focus and passion as we work together to drive the success of the creative economy."
Chipukeezy’s latest appointment marks his return to government service. In 2018, former President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him as a director at the National Authority for the Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA), and in 2021, he was elected Vice Chairperson.
Expected to hit the ground running, in his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing official ceremonies, state functions, and diplomatic protocols.
His duties will include protocol management, event planning and coordination, liaising with government agencies and diplomats, preparing speeches and briefings, and handling public relations and media coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Protocol Management: Ensuring adherence to diplomatic protocols during state functions, coordinating the reception, accreditation, and hosting of foreign dignitaries, and advising government officials on protocol etiquette and procedures.
-
Event Planning & Coordination: Organizing national events such as public holidays, summits, and state banquets, managing logistics for presidential trips (both local and international), and coordinating VIP security arrangements with relevant agencies.
-
Liaison with Government Agencies & Diplomats: Collaborating with ministries, foreign embassies, and international organizations on diplomatic engagements, as well as facilitating communication between the presidency and other government offices regarding official events.
-
Speech & Briefing Preparations: Assisting in drafting event briefs and ensuring the President’s speeches align with diplomatic protocols, while also overseeing seating arrangements and order of precedence at official functions.
-
Public Relations & Media Coordination: Managing press coverage during state functions, handling media arrangements, and overseeing communication related to official events and announcements.
Chipukeezy initially rose to fame as a comedian on the Churchill Show on NTV, later establishing himself as a key figure in Kenya’s media and entertainment industry.
The comedian has been a close ally of the Kenya Kwanza administration and has served as an MC at several events hosted by President Ruto.
However, his association with the current government has sparked criticism on social media, prompting him to respond.
"To those constantly attacking us for what we do, let me tell you, quitting a paying job isn’t easy. Do you expect me to walk away from work just so you can celebrate me online? How foolish would that be?" he remarked.
"I'm an MC. If I'm invited to host an event, why would I turn it down just to ‘change Kenya’? If you have a cause to change the country, I wish you the best. But just because we’re not part of your cause doesn’t mean we’re weak."
