22-year-old TikTok sensation Liz Kamene, known online as Kamba Icon, tragically lost her life in a recent hit-and-run accident near Kariobangi Roundabout in Nairobi.

According to eyewitness accounts, Kamene fell victim to a phone snatching incident moments before the accident. Thieves grabbed her iPhone, and in a desperate attempt to retrieve it, she was struck by a speeding vehicle that fled the scene.

The impact left Kamene with multiple fractures and severe body injuries, ultimately leading to the loss of her leg and arm.

However, what angered Kenyans was the response from bystanders. Instead of assisting the gravely injured TikToker, many onlookers opted to record videos and take photos, leaving her exposed.

"Out of all those people taking pictures, not one had a leso to cover her? This is heartbreaking. Rest in peace, Kamene," a Facebook user lamented.

Kamene’s boyfriend, Wycliffe Holden, shared emotional details of their final conversation, revealing that they had spent the evening together at their home in Huruma before he traveled to Migori.

They talked until midnight, unaware that it would be their last conversation. He would then wake up to the devastating news of her passing.

The circumstances surrounding Kamene’s death have reignited public outrage over rising insecurity and the inefficiency of law enforcement in preventing such incidents. Amid mounting pressure, authorities have assured the public that they are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings to track down the culprits.

Shockingly, Kamene’s tragic accident mirrors the untimely demise of another TikTok star, Brian Chira, who was also killed in a hit-and-run on March 16, 2024.

Just like Kamene, Chira was struck by a speeding vehicle in the early hours of the morning in Karuri, Kiambu County, suffering fatal head injuries.

The incident preceded a similar one where a foreign national was knocked down by President William Ruto's motorcade, which was driving at breakneck speed along Ngong Road in Nairobi.

The National Police Service (NPS) has since urged Kenyans with information regarding the deadly road accident to report to the nearest police station.
