A video has emerged showing the last moments before former Nandi Hills Member of Parliament (MP) Alfred Keter was abducted by police in broad daylight, much to the horror of his immediate family.

The 43-second clip seen by Viral Tea showed the lawmaker being forced out of his black Landcruiser V8 by police officers just as he was leaving the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

At least four police officers were seen bundling him into a white pickup truck with sirens, while curious onlookers watched and recorded the event.

Keter, along with his wife and children, were heard screaming as he was taken away.

Here is the video:

"Abducted, headed to an unknown destination," an account associated with Keter posted moments after the incident.

Keter has been a sharp critic of Kenya Kwanza's administration especially on the now-withdrawn Finance Bill.

Several leaders including Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino accused the Kenya police of allegedly being responsible for the abduction.

"Alfred Keter arrested in Church. Intimidation tactics will not work," the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) elected MP stated.

Whereas the National Police Service (NPS) was yet to comment on the matter by the time of publishing this story, this adds to the numerous arrests and abductions in the past week during the anti-Finance Bill protests.

On Wednesday, June 26, President William Ruto poured cold water on the recently reported cases of abductions, reiterating that his administration was still committed to ensuring that there were no extrajudicial killings in the country.

Speaking during a press briefing at State House, Ruto allayed concerns of impromptu arrests, stating that those who were arrested during the anti-Finance Bill protests were detained at police stations.

“I did promise the country that there will be no extra-judicial killing going forward; and ever since I came into office, there is not one incident of extra-judicial killing…What you said about abductions are statements attributed to our civil society groups.

"But all the people they mentioned have since been found in police custody and those that were already processed were already released," he addressed.
