A former Senator is nursing serious injuries at a Nairobi-based medical facility after he was attacked by thugs at the Globe Cinema roundabout on Tuesday night, December 20.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the former legislator who represented a coastal county between 2017-2022 was accosted by muggers at around 9 pm.

DCI reported that the thugs who attacked him took away his phone and other valuables whose worth was not disclosed.

"The thugs who assaulted him before they took away his mobile phone and other valuables disappeared shortly thereafter towards the Nairobi river, leaving the Senator to his own devices.

"Police officers based at the Parklands police station who were out on patrol spotted the badly injured man who had managed to walk to the Fig Tree - Kipande road junction and rushed to his aid," the DCI stated in part.

They immediately rushed him to the Agha Khan hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

Reports indicated that the senator is under doctors' care at a city hospital but in stable condition.

The officers further warned the public to be wary of their surroundings as they put the thugs on notice, even during the festive season.

The incident comes despite various government measures to curb the menace including reorganising the Nairobi Police administration and officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) deployed to Nairobi by order of President William Ruto.
