A day after the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) imposed a Ksh1.9 million fine on Casa Vera Lounge, a restaurant based along Ngong Road in Nairobi, several clubs moved with speed to change their tactics.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 26, ODPC revealed that Casa Vera Lounge posted a reveller's image on their social media platform without their permission, a matter which led to popular nightclubs issuing disclaimers in response to the chills the government office sent to nightclubs across Kenya.

The disclaimers informed revellers that their images are likely to be taken, some of which may end up on their social media pages.

Cavalli @ The Manor, however, chose a unique approach to maintain the loyalty of its customer base by rolling out a new identification method that has gone under the radar across the country in recent times.

Introducing glow wristbands, which are triply banded, thick style of glow bracelets and are available in multiple colour selections.

What Are Glow Wristbands Used For?

According to Glowproducts.com, people can use the wristband glow bracelets for glow parties, festivals, charity events, glow runs, concerts, camping, Halloween or during night sports to designate team members.

"Easily keep track of your guests, your kids or your teammates with triple wide wristband glow bracelets. The brightness of these glow-in-the-dark wristbands makes them perfect for any night sports event or even safety purposes.

"With the glowing wristbands, you can be assured of hours of bright, safe, colourful fun! Get some today and be prepared for whatever nighttime celebration or event comes up!  Glowing wristbands are waterproof, so they'll be perfect for your pool party too.  The Glow Wristbands look great custom printed," stated the website in part.

Some glow wristbands come in a Tri-Colour selection consisting of three bright colours (Pink, Green and Blue) all in one thick wristband style glowing bracelet, which is a very popular colour selection suitable for everyone.

The bands can glow for a duration of approximately 6-8 hours and have a shelf-life of approximately three years if kept in a foil package.

At Cavalli, the glow bands will be used to identify customers who do not wish to be photographed or filmed as a way of signalling the patron's preference.

"Request a GLOW wristband at the entrance or from our stewards. Keep the wristband on until you leave the premises," stated Cavalli.

The entertainment joint assured that all individuals involved in filming or recording will respect his or her request and avoid capturing the person on camera.

"If, by any chance, a picture or recording is unintentionally taken, it will be promptly deleted. Your privacy is our priority," Cavalli assured.

The entertainment joint also provided a form situated on its website for patrons to fill in case they want their images deleted from its social media platforms, promising a 24-hour action window by its team.

However, it warned them that "By entering the event premises, you waive all rights you may have to any claims for payment or royalties in connection with any use, exhibition, streaming, web casting, televising, or other publication of these materials, regardless of the purpose or sponsoring of such use, exhibiting, broadcasting, webcasting, or other publication irrespective of whether a fee for admission or sponsorship is charged.

"You also waive any right to inspect or approve any photo, video, or audio recording taken by Cavalli Lounge or the person or entity designated to do so by Cavalli Lounge," Cavalli's statement read in part.

Cavalli's approach was lauded by social media users in comparison to some other nightclubs who moved to ban entry to patrons who will not consent to having their images and videos taken while within their premises, stating that "Do not enter this area if you do not agree to the foregoing."

"Just look at the difference between Quiver and Cavalli. Quiver thinks they're a studio and people go there to be taken photos/videos," Gachambi Nderitu slammed.

Cavalli is located in Westlands and has been growing in popularity due to its convenient setting and easy access to bars for drinks, a move that sees it threaten to challenge popular clubs in the vicinity such as Milan, 40Forty among others for the title of best nightclub in the area.
