Ousted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has had part of his security detail reinstated, a week after he accused President William Ruto of ordering the withdrawal of his security when he was hospitalised on Thursday, October 17.

Gachagua was in attendance at a church service at Saint James ACK Cathedral in Kiambu County with enhanced security detail, despite fighting an intense legal battle in court.

This latest development was confirmed by Gachagua's close ally, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa. "The state has reinstated part of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s security detail," he announced.

Adding "In the same spirit, I urge the government to take the next honourable step and reinstate his employees as well. Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done."

Senator Thang'wa was one of the few leaders still allied to Gachagua who accompanied him to the church function in Kiambu on Sunday. Cleophas Malala, Senators John Methu (Nyandarua) and Joe Nyutu (Murang'a) were also present at the Saint James ACK Cathedral.

A new team has also been posted at the ousted Deputy President's home in Karen to oversee his security.

The latest developments came after Gachagua spilt the beans on little-known events in his tenure as DP, days after he was taken ill in hospital whilst in the middle of a Senate trial which saw him impeached.

Addressing the press on Sunday, October 20, Gachagua went on an explosive tirade regarding the withdrawal of his security detail. "It is unfortunate that my brother and friend, President William Ruto, ordered for the withdrawal of my security from the hospital here."

He also strongly accused the Head of State for being ruthless against him after 766 days of putting his faith in his leadership.

"I have been here alone without a single officer looking after me. He ordered for the withdrawal of security guards in my rural home in Nyeri, in my private home here in Karen and all officers who were close to me were disarmed and given warning that they should not be anywhere near me.

"I didn't know President William Ruto can be that vicious. I am shocked by how vicious a man I helped to be President, a man I believed in, a man that I was persecuted for supporting him, could be so vicious against me when I'm literally fighting for my life in hospital. How cruel can a man be?" Gachagua held nothing back against his former boss.

In the aftermath of Gachagua's impeachment, the DP's office was thrown into further disarray after it emerged that 108 staff at his office were told to go on compulsory leave. Some of the members of the ousted DP's staff were turned away from the Harambee House Annex in Nairobi when they attempted to report to work.

On October 27 while in Kiambu, Gachagua fired a subliminal at President Ruto, warning him that the Mt Kenya region will not forget how the impeachment against him was plotted.

"We forgive but we don't forget. I've heard people saying that 3 years is a lot of time and that by 2027, people will have forgotten. Even the atrocities meted on us by the white man, the pain we suffered under President Moi, we still remember. When the time is right, we will address the issue at hand. But at the moment, we will keep quiet," he stated.

The former DP who blamed his woes on his nature of always speaking the truth did not waste the opportunity to delve into some of the pressing concerns of the citizenry, particularly over-taxation, economic adversities and challenges in the health system.

While praying for God’s wisdom for President William Ruto, Gachagaua appeared to take a dig at the current government citing over-taxation and economic adversities.
