He Has Never Been Our Student- Strathmore University On Brian Mwenda

Strathmore was responding to claims by Mwenda's father, Arnold Njagi, who recounted his son's academic journey from primary to university, explaining that he pursued a diploma course in criminology in 2016.

Strathmore University based in Nairobi has now denied claims that the alleged fake lawyer, Brian Mwenda, was a student at the prestigious university.

In a statement obtained by Viral Tea, the university's registrar revealed that Mwenda did not graduate from its law school, nor did he even attend the school as a student at any given point.

"It has come to the notice of the University Management that one Brian Njagi Mwenda, who is the subject of Law Society of Kenya (LSK) investigations as a masquerading advocate, claims to be a graduate of Strathmore Law School. Strathmore University Management wishes to state for the record that the said person did not graduate from Strathmore Law School, nor was he a student of the School at any one time," the university stated.

"The above-named does not appear in the University database of students or alumni."

The university further availed a verification platform for members of the public to confirm the authenticity of anyone who claims to have graduated from Strathmore University.

Strathmore concluded by urging members of the public to disregard any claims made by Mwenda, whom the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) exposed for masquerading as a lawyer and practising without a license

"The link https://verify.strathmore.edu/ is the official verification site for all to verify the authenticity of any graduate claiming to be from Strathmore University.

"Strathmore University Management therefore states for the record that any claims made by the said person concerning his qualifications or association with Strathmore are entirely false and should be disregarded," added the university.

Viral Tea has however established that the link the university mentioned in the statement cannot be accessed by members of the public but only by the university's administration.

Strathmore was responding to claims by Mwenda's father, Arnold Njagi, who recounted his son's academic journey from primary to university, explaining that he pursued a diploma course in criminology in 2016.

"This enabled him to join Strathmore University in 2017 and graduate in 2020," he stated while speaking to the press.

Njagi added that his son graduated in 2020 and joined the Kenya School of Law (KSL). After two years, he was admitted to the bar from where he started practising law, his father affirming that he is a qualified lawyer contrary to what the LSK has been affirming since it exposed him.

Mwenda was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, October 18 after he was  grilled by detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road.

"I therefore release the accused person on a bond of Ksh300,000 or a cash bail of Ksh200,000 with one contact person," Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina ruled regarding his release on bail on Monday, October 23.

The case will be mentioned on November 7, 2023. Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko revealed in a statement that he managed to pay the cash bail to secure Mwenda's release.
