Renowned journalist Ken Mijungu has clarified that he was not fired by TV47 under Cape Media Limited, nor has he ever been fired from any media company he has worked at in his illustrious career.

Mijungu on Monday, February 24 responded to reports that he parted ways with the TV station merely days after joining from KTN. He nonetheless revealed his next move for the time being.

"I am a public figure hence I owe you duty whenever there is a misunderstanding. Sometimes you must stoop very low to enable people with low IQ and understanding to comprehend simple things" he stated in part.

"I was not FIRED from anywhere or by anyone, no institution I have worked for for the last 16 years has ever fired me. I am a consummate professional and a trained Lawyer. For now, I will concentrate on selling cars, leasing aircraft and cars, consulting in various fields and washing cars. Read for yourself."

To prove his sentiments, Mijungu shared an email he sent to the Cape Media management where he sought time off to reflect on the value he was to give to the company.

"I seek to make this request official. I have been at Cape Media for 3 weeks now trying to figure out how to fit and I honestly believe I am still unable to place my finger at it.

"This is compounded by the interactions I have had with my colleagues. Due to the forgoing reason, I kindly request you to extend me some time to figure this out," read the email in part.

After this email, Cape Media, in a letter signed by HR Lilian Makandi dated February 22, terminated his contract, which some reports and Kenyans online had taken as a firing.

"We acknowledge receipt of your email of February 21, 2025, in which you requested time off to reflect on your engagement with the Company. Having considered the matter, Management has taken the decision to revoke the Service Agreement dated 31st January 2025," the letter read in part.

In her letter, Makandi wished Mijungu success and expressed the station's enthusiasm to collaborate with him if he ever chose to return.

Mijungu, who was known for anchoring KTN news during his four-year tenure at the Standard Group Limited, was set to be the latest addition to a star-studded lineup of presenters and anchors at the firm, established by Mount Kenya University founder and billionaire Prof. Simon Gicharu and which also owns Radio 47.

Announcing his exit from Standard Group Limited, Mijungu expressed his gratitude to his colleagues at the media house, and to God, for being with him throughout the four years. He remarked that it was time to explore a new environment.

"A good dancer knows when to exit the stage! 4 years of absolute adrenaline and nothing but the best as unpredictable as it was, It’s time to find something else to do when I still can," he wrote on X. "Forever grateful to God, my colleagues at Standard Group and KTN. ADIOS!"

At the media house, Mijungu served as a News Editor/Programs Editor, News Anchor and Current affairs talk show host at KTN News, before and after the 24-hour news channel was merged into KTN Home.
