Popular Kikuyu benga artist and DJ Fatxo, real name Lawrence Njuguna has thrown a contradictory statement regarding the events that transpired prior to the mysterious death of 23-year-old interior designer Geoffrey (Jeff) Mwathi.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, March 12, Fatxo revealed that he was the one who went and reported to the police that Mwathi was missing prior to his demise back in February 2023.

He explained that after he went with Mwathi to his house at Redwood Apartments along USIU Road after a night out, he left with three women only to find out that Mwathi was not in the house and the occupants he left behind previously were still there.

This prompted him to report the matter to the police station before he reportedly found his body.

"He (Jeff) was my good friend and as my lawyer said, it was me who went and reported. We went with Jeff to my house and then I immediately left with three ladies then later came back after a few hours finding Jeff was not in the house and the others are there.

"I'm the one who went with them to the police station to report that Jeff is missing," he said.

He maintained that after learning about Mwathi's demise, which he did not mourn, he reached out to the deceased's family to break the news of his unfortunate demise, offering even to support them during his burial.

However, DJ Fatxo did not get the response he was hoping for and sought the help of Mwathi's mother to pass some of the information to his relatives.

"About the issue that I didn't mourn Jeff, I reached out, I'm even the one who told his family that Jeff is no more. I actually contacted them and told them that I would have supported them to bury their child and work together because it was something that also hit me hard.

"It reached an extent I felt that I did not get the response I was expecting. I told my mother 'can you please call one of the family members so that we agree to cooperate'," he went on.

Nonetheless, he reiterated that he was willing to cooperate with detectives investigating the case until the truth behind Jeff's demise is determined, expressing confidence in a victory.

On Friday, March 10, the disc jockey expressed optimism that justice would prevail in the incident reported to have occurred at his residence.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)'s Homicide Department who visited his home at Redwood Apartments reconstructed the scene of the 12-storey building residential apartment where the 23-year-old fell on February 22.

However, they found that the window that Mwathi is believed to have jumped from had grills, which made it impossible for a man to fit through, a matter which made their attention shift to whether Mwathi may have fallen from the rooftop.

In addition, CCTV cameras captured him landing on the ground floor of the singer's house, with details of where he fell from unclear.

The detectives headed to the apartment where the DJ lives, on the same day a directive from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Director of Criminal Investigation Amin Mohamed was issued to the investigative agency.

A statement previously recorded by DJ Fatxo at the Kasarani Police station revealed that the duo on the day they met went through four different clubs, beginning with Bliss Bistro and ending at Quiver Lounge along Thika Road.

CCTV footage obtained from Redwood apartments showed them with three unidentified women returning to DJ Fatxo's apartment at around 3 am. A police report further revealed that there was another man, a relative of the DJ, who arrived at the apartment in a different car.

The DJ was thereafter captured in the footage leaving his apartment with the three women at 4 am, while Mwathi was left in the house with two other men.
