IG Kanja Advises Gachagua On Demand That He Be Given Security
NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga on Tuesday, April 15 urged Gachagua to inform the police about his travel plans

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a response to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who demanded that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja give him security amidst claims that his life was in danger.
In a statement, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga on Tuesday, April 15 urged Gachagua to inform the police about his travel plans so they can coordinate and arrange appropriate security measures.
"The attention of the National Police Service (NPS) has been drawn to a letter supposedly written by the former Deputy President, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, regarding alleged failure by the police to provide him with security. The Inspector General of Police wishes to reaffirm that the NPS plays a pivotal role in promoting and safeguarding national security, ensuring the safety of all Kenyans, residents, visitors, and their property.

"In light of Hon. Gachagua's security concerns, he is advised to liaise with police officers at all levels should he require additional security measures, and notify the police in advance of his movements and public engagements to facilitate proper planning and coordination of his security arrangements," stated NPS in part.
Additionally, Nyaga affirmed that in fulfilling its mandate, the NPS is obligated under Article 244(c) of the Constitution to uphold human rights and fundamental freedoms, further reaffirming to Kenyans its unwavering commitment to constitutional impartiality, serving all persons without political bias.
NPS assured the public that the security situation nationwide remains stable, and proactive measures have been implemented to prevent criminal activities. In addition, the police promised to dutifully respond to all security needs where and when requested, as provided for under the law.
"As a Service, we remain apolitical and steadfast in proactively deploying intelligence-led measures to pre-empt and respond to security threats through multi-agency approaches, while strictly upholding the rule of law and human rights," added NPS.
Earlier, the former Deputy President claimed that the IG wanted to leave him vulnerable to attacks by organised gangs, hence the withdrawal of his security.
"Reference is made to the above subject matter for your immediate action and attention regarding my security, that of my family, my supporters and my property. As you are aware, you have a constitutional responsibility and duty to protect the life and property of every Kenyan as enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya 2010. However, in this case, Mr. Kanja, you are clearly perpetuating crime and violence," he wrote in part.
"Further, take note of your constitutional establishment under article 245 of the CoK and more specifically 245(2)(b) on independent command of the National Police Service. This is as you dine in the oligarchy and anarchism of the current unpopular regime. Might it have been forgotten to you IG, I served as the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency from the year 2017- 2022 after which I was elected on a joint ticket with H. E. President William Ruto serving as the 2nd Deputy President of The Republic of Kenya from 13th September, 2022 up to and until the sham impeachment in 2024 on flimsy and trumped-up charges by the sponsors well known to you. You withdrew my security in a clear, thought-out scheme and backward conspiracy to make me vulnerable to organized criminal gangs in cahoots with the Police and other Security Agencies and have been implementing the scheme."
