President William Ruto, on Tuesday, July 25 expressed that he is ready to meet Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga in person and hold talks.

In a statement on his official social media pages, Ruto indicated that he was ready to engage with the Azimio la Umoja leader whenever he felt that he was ready for face-to-face talks.

He however revealed that he had flown to Tanzania on official duties and would not return until Wednesday evening, July 26, after which, he would be ready to engage him.

"My friend Raila Odinga, I am off to Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in our continent.

"I will be back tomorrow evening, and as you have always known, am available to meet one on one with you anytime at your convenience," he wrote.

He was yet to respond to the new offer by the time of publishing this article.

Raila earlier claimed that Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan's efforts to mediate between him and President Ruto had collapsed.

Speaking to the media, Raila claimed that Ruto was the one who invited Suluhu to Kenya to convince the conflicting parties into entering into a truce.

However, she was kept waiting for longer than she anticipated by the current administration, forcing her to return to Tanzania.

"Many eminent persons both local and international have tried to mediate between Azimio and Ruto’s side but they have been kept at bay by Kenya Kwanza. Two weeks ago, Mama Samia Suluhu came to Nairobi to try and mediate but she was kept waiting for 2 days and went back," Raila told journalists.

Raila however stated that he was open to a dialogue with all peace envoys seeking to convince the conflicting parties to strike a truce.

The ODM boss assured that he was ready to engage with Kenya Kwanza, but indicated that Ruto's team had lacked goodwill in addressing the issues raised.

Analysts argue that Ruto's message may be taken as a public troll despite Ruto's effort to extend an olive branch to Raila, arguing that he does not need a third party to come to a truce with the opposition leader.

In other developments, Kenya Kwanza urged Azimio to resume the bi-partisan talks to resolve issues between the two camps weeks after they collapsed, the result being the resumption of the anti-government protests.

“We are prepared to talk and for the sake of the country it is important to reiterate that if they come in we are able to take matters from where they will be,” said Tharaka Member of Parliament George Murugara during a media briefing.

“We want the Azimio side to confirm too, like us if they are ready for the talks. They are also to confirm when they will are actually resuming and coming to the round table so that we can have the discussion."
