UPDATE: The Judiciary has confirmed that Lady Justice Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae was involved in a road accident along the Eldama Ravine – Nakuru Highway, announcing that she is currently receiving treatment for her injuries. She has been reportedly airlifted to Nairobi for treatment.

"Hon Lady Justice Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae, a Judge of the High Court and Presiding Judge, Isiolo High Court, has regrettably been involved in a Road Traffic Accident along the Eldama Ravine – Nakuru road.

"She is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. We wish the Hon Judge a quick recovery," the Judiciary stated on X.


Isiolo High Court Judge Cherere Thripsisa Wanjiku Wamae has been involved in a road accident along the Eldama Ravine-Nakuru Highway.

The accident which occurred on Monday, September 9 saw a vehicle the judge was travelling in roll into a ditch. Confirming the crash to the press was Mogotio OCPD Felician Nafula.

Judge Wanjiku has sustained injuries. Photos seen by Viral Tea showed the Ford vehicle bearing Government of Kenya (GK) number plates lying on its side, having suffered quite a bit of damage.

To be specific, the front part of the vehicle including the windshield was heavily damaged indicating the impact of the crash, whose cause is yet to be established by the time of publishing this article.

Another photo showed first responders and a Traffic Police officer at the scene trying to rescue the Isiolo High Court judge and other occupants inside the vehicle.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reveals that as of August 28, 2024, 15,651 victims have been involved in road accidents this year compared to 14,745 in 2023.

Traffic accidents are most prevalent on weekends, with Sunday recording the highest number of fatalities. 

There have been concerns about how motorists have been complying with traffic rules, with the worst accident witnessed during the past month blamed on driver negligence.

That accident which occurred in the Migaa area near Salgaa along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway claimed 14 lives and left 55 others injured, with survivors saying that it could have been avoided.

Despite police involvement, a survivor of the Coast Bus crash revealed that the Mombasa-bound bus, which experienced mechanical failures, received inadequate attention. The bus's brake failure led to the crash at the Migaa blackspot.
