The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has warned examination centre managers, or invigilators, against leaking Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) practical exam papers.

In a short notice shared on Monday, October 23, the council warned invigilators against sharing confidential information with unauthorised individuals including the candidates until the time of the exams.

"We strongly caution KCSE Centre Managers against sharing confidential instructions for preparation of science practical exam papers with unauthorized persons," stated KNEC in part.

"Please adhere to KNEC rules and regulations. Non-compliance will attract sanctions spelt out in KNEC Act."

The Act indicates that centre managers found guilty of leaking exam papers face a fine not exceeding Ksh500,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding twelve months, or both.

The punishment affects individuals who gain access to examination materials and knowingly reveal the contents, whether orally or in writing, to any unauthorized party, whether a candidate or not and individuals who willfully and maliciously damage examination materials.

Others include individuals who not being registered to take a particular council examination, with intent to impersonate, present, or attempt to present themselves to take the part of an enrolled candidate, or those who possess or present a forged certificate or diploma.

The notice came as the national examinations began today with the candidates sitting for physics practicals. 903,260 candidates had registered to sit the paper with the science paper practicals projected to run until Friday.

KNEC is also gearing up to supervise the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and KCSE exams expected to begin on October 30 and October 23 respectively.

The KCSE examination began on October 23, 2023, after the rehearsals took place on Thursday, October 19, while the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment(KILEA) and KCPE exams begin on October 30, 2023.

There are 1,415,315 KCPE candidates across 28,533 centres, while 1,282,574 are registered for KPSEA exam across 32,584 centres.
