In response to criticism surrounding the Ksh 20 million allegedly received from President William Ruto, Jesus Winner Ministry has clarified that it has not received the money.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, March 6, the church’s Secretary, Raphael Mweti, clarified that the multimillion-shilling funds were a pledge rather than a cash donation, as some Kenyans had claimed.

Mweti explained that President Ruto pledged in response to a request from Bishop Edward Mwai, who had informed him about the church’s plans to construct a larger facility.

He further stated that although the church had not yet received the funds, it would not turn them down, emphasizing that the money would be used to build a bigger structure to accommodate more congregants.

“We wish to clarify to the nation who have been our faithful followers since 2009, that President Ruto pledged Ksh20 million following a request from our General Overseer, Edward Mwai,” the church spokesperson stated.

“Following our humble beginning in the Zimmerman area in 2000, the church has grown to its current state in Roysambu, and we plan to build a bigger sanctuary on the land we bought from Uchumi."

Mweti emphasized that despite the criticism, the church would remain open to all Kenyans, regardless of their political beliefs or social status.

“Our church motto is, 'Accept one another as Christ accepted you'. Our doors are open, and we do not discriminate against anyone based on their affiliations or status in society,” Mweti added.

At the same time, the church insisted that the land referred to by Ruto in the Sunday service was owned by the church and had been purchased from Uchumi Supermarket.

The church clarified that it had bought the land from Uchumi Supermarket and noted that Parliament had looked into the land dispute between KDF and the church, confirming that the land belonged to the church.

"I have seen lawyers say that the church was given KDF land. The Pastor himself made a request to the President. The PS for Land and that of Defence came with government surveyors, and the land was subdivided," the secretary clarified, adding, "If you go there right now, you will find a wall between our land and that of KDF."

On Sunday, at a large service held at the Roysambu church, Ruto praised Bishop Mwai and then donated Ksh20 million. He also committed to giving an additional Ksh 100 million for the church's construction.

The gesture sparked varied reactions from Kenyans, with some vowing to protest against it and occupy the church.
