Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that the opposition is calling an emergency meeting to address the ‘state of the nation’ following the reported abduction of Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi.

In a statement on Monday, May 26, Kalonzo announced that the meeting is set for Tuesday, May 27, to decide their next steps in response to what he described as a troubling trend by the government.

“We condemn the abduction of Juja MP George Koimburi in the strongest terms possible. The Opposition is convening tomorrow to assess the current state of political harassment and intimidation in the country by the Kenya Kwanza regime," stated Kalonzo.

Kalonzo’s comments followed fresh revelations about Juja MP George Koimburi, who was reportedly abducted in broad daylight during a church service on Sunday.

Less than a day after Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang'wa claimed Koimburi was snatched and shoved into a Subaru by unknown men, the MP was found abandoned at Jacaranda Coffee Plantation in the Kibichoi area of Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Footage has since surfaced showing Koimburi in visible distress, sparking fears that he may have been tortured before being found. He was later taken to Karen Hospital for treatment.

Kalonzo strongly denounced the reported abduction, lamenting that if even an elected MP can be targeted like this, it shows no one is truly safe.

“If an MP who is entitled to security gets abducted in broad daylight, it means Kenyans are on their own,” Kalonzo stated.

It is still unclear who exactly will attend Kalonzo’s planned meeting, but it is widely speculated that key opposition figures like People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua — both vocal critics of Kenya Kwanza — will likely be part of it.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied having any role in Koimburi’s disappearance, with some reports suggesting the MP may have faked it.

However, the DCI did confirm that Koimburi has been under investigation since Friday over alleged land fraud and the mismanagement of Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

Koimburi is among several government critics facing legal troubles lately — his case comes just days after Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya was arrested and later released on a Ksh1 million bond or Ksh500,000 cash bail following graft charges.
