Wiper Party Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed his intent to sue Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over his report on the former vice president's private meeting with President William Ruto and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking during an interview on Spice FM, Kalonzo claimed that Duale had misrepresented facts surrounding the events which he captured in the CS's recently released book titled For The Record.

Kalonzo was particularly angered by the book's description of negotiations in 2012, a year before the 2013 general elections.

The vital meeting had taken place at Kalonzo's residence during a period of political uncertainty as former President Mwai Kibaki was preparing to hand over the reins of power to his successor.

At the time, possible candidates to succeed Kibaki included Uhuru and Ruto as well as opposition leader, Raila Odinga, and Kalonzo.

However, Uhuru and Ruto, who were facing charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) had joined forces and were also seeking to recruit Kalonzo in their ranks to campaign against Odinga, hence they met at his 4-acre home in Hardy, Karen.

Kalonzo had claimed that Duale's book had inaccurately depicted the discussions during the meeting and affirmed that the CS revealed details he was not aware of.

Among the contentious points was Duale's claim that Kalonzo could provide stability in the event Uhuru and Ruto happened to be jailed by the ICC.

Kalonzo also divulged that the meeting was set up by politician Jimi Wanjigi as they sought to broker a deal ahead of the 2013 polls.

"Out of that, I have heard stories saying that I said that when the two of them (Uhuru and Ruto) go to jail at the Hague, then I will take over. Can you imagine? What Vice President or human being would tell a suffering duo that when you go to jail, I will come and help you? That is why I am suing Duale.

"He has written a book on that chapter and he was not there. It is a very interesting suit against Duale because he wrote things he did not know. Therefore, I recommend Kenyans to read my book," he stated.

In his account detailed in the book Against All Odds, Kalonzo explains that the initial plan was to form a presidential ticket, with either him or Uhuru taking the presidential candidate spot and the other as running mate. Ruto was to be the National Assembly Majority Leader.

“We had agreed with Ruto that I would be on the presidential ticket, with Uhuru as my running mate or vice versa. Ruto was to be the majority leader,” Kalonzo records in his book.

However, after arriving for the meeting, Uhuru informed Kalonzo that they had decided he should consider a different position, ruling out both the presidency and deputy presidency, a matter which sparked tensions that reverberated across the room.

Kalonzo recalls that the tension in the air was so high that after delivering the news, Uhuru walked off to smoke a cigarette and when he came back to the gazebo, he told Kalonzo they’d be taking Charity Ngilu with them on a foreign trip to Burundi.

The Wiper Party boss further recounted in his book that he considered the meeting one of the most significant moments of betrayal in his political life.

Meanwhile, Kalonzo did not reveal when the suit would be filed in court and neither did he offer details regarding the exact charges against the CS.

Duale on his part had revealed during a previous interview with Spice FM on May 11, 2023, that he was not present at the meeting, but claimed that the sequence of events during the meeting was relayed to him by Ruto and Kalonzo himself.
