The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) will close a section of the busy Lang'ata Road for 12 hours this weekend.

The authority notified motorists on Thursday, October 13 that the section after the Galleria Mall entrance between the Ola Petrol Station and the U-turn slot at Nyumba Moja Road Junction will be closed between Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.

The temporary closure will last between 5 am and 5 pm on both days and is for the purposes of the erection of the Galleria Mall footbridge.

"The installation of the footbridge is meant to enhance pedestrian safety on the busy road. KeNHA advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site," the notice read in part.

Motorists heading towards Nairobi CBD and those heading to Karen are advised to share lanes adjacent to the closed road sections on Lang'ata Road as shall be directed by traffic marshals or use alternative routes.

The busy road has been experiencing a series of closures to erect footbridges at points frequented by pedestrians and matatu passengers to enhance their safety along the road.

So far, KeNHA conducted footbridge erection works at Lang'ata Barracks as well as near Carnivore Grounds and Uhuru Gardens, areas possessing high human traffic.

It had commissioned the T-Mall footbridge on August 5 as part of the government's plan to improve transport across Kenya.

Construction of the T-Mall flyover by a Spanish engineering company, Centurion, began in November 2020 to help address traffic flow in and out of Nairobi CBD.

The project was carried out under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Government of Kenya and that of Spain.

T-Mall flyover now links Lang’ata and Karen as well as the Wilson Airport, army barracks and Nairobi National Park.

The erection of the T-Mall Bridge was meant to allow vehicles heading to Ongata Rongai and Magadi to use the elevated road while those heading to Mbagathi Road, South C and Wilson Airport to use the underpass.
