Mombasa-based Chef Maliha Mohammed on Monday, August 14 shattered the record for the longest home kitchen cooking marathon.

The exceptionally-talented chef set out on the extraordinary endeavour on Friday, August 11 and it took her a stunning display of skill and determination to surpass the previous record.

Mohammed broke the record of 68 hours, 30 minutes, and 1 second, which was more than the previous record set by Rickey Lumpkin II from Los Angeles, California, in the United States of 68 hours, 30 minutes and 2 seconds.

"Ma fans wangu wote Wakenya wenzangu, those who contributed, prayed for this, showed any support. May God bless you all," she appreciated her supporters.

Her aspiration was to surpass the prior milestone and establish an entirely new standard for the longest uninterrupted cooking session within a home kitchen.

The cooking marathon took place in Maliha's own home kitchen, where her culinary abilities took centre stage.

Over the duration of the marathon, she cooked an array of dishes underscoring her versatility and imaginative flair as a chef. Her dedication and commitment to her craft were palpable as she tirelessly prepared dishes for hours on end.

Mohammed prepared sumptuous meals during her marathon, where she also showcased her culinary skills and diversity by cooking various cuisines. The chef was supported by her family, friends, and fans, who cheered her on and also received messages of encouragement from celebrities.

She even played host to guests, among them Crazy Kennar and Oga Obinna, who joined her for complimentary meals as she pursued her remarkable goal.

Mohammed's record is not official yet as it awaits confirmation from the Guinness World Record (GWR) team.

The longest home cooking marathon is also viewed as a chance for her to break her own record last set in 2019 when she cooked for over 75 hours straight.

After GWR confirms her latest feat, she will seek to challenge 26-year-old Nigerian chef, restaurateur and actress Hilda Effiong Bassey, alias Hilda Baci for the title of the individual longest cooking marathon.

GWR on Tuesday, June 13 certified Baci's world record of 93 hours 11 minutes after analysing footage and evidence submitted from her cooking marathon before deciding to award her.

Mohammed will in November aim to snatch the prized crown from Baci and do what no human being has done before; cook for 100 hours.
