KETRACO Warns Over Impersonation Scam Targeting Tenders Using CEO
The company is urging the public to remain highly vigilant and avoid engaging with anyone falsely claiming to represent its top leadership.

The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has sounded the alarm over a fraud scheme involving people impersonating the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In an official statement, KETRACO revealed the specific phone numbers, landlines, and email addresses the scammers have been using to pose as senior executives in an attempt to deceive job seekers and tender applicants.

"It has come to our attention that an individual using the mobile number 0735 982 112, landline number 020 271 7001, and email ceo@ketraco.go.ke has been falsely presenting themselves as the MD and CEO of KETRACO. These contacts do not belong to our MD & CEO or KETRACO. We believe this misrepresentation is for malicious purposes," stated KETRACO.
"We strongly advise the public to exercise extreme caution and be vigilant against such fraudulent schemes. KETRACO will not be held responsible for any losses or damages incurred due to engaging with individuals who misrepresent themselves as our officials," added KETRACO.
The advisory to stakeholders highlighted the need for vigilance and adherence to safety protocols when applying for or pursuing tenders.
KETRACO is actively implementing large-scale infrastructure projects aimed at expanding and modernising Kenya’s high-voltage electricity transmission network, covering substations, transmission lines, and related systems.
The alert comes as KETRACO currently has five tenders open to interested and qualified stakeholders.
These include bids for the Kabarnet & Rumuruti Substations Extension (LOT 5), Suswa Substation Firebreak & Watch Towers, the Kabarnet–Rumuruti 132kV Transmission Line, the Kimuka 400/220kV Substation & Transmission Lines, and the installation of STATCOMs and Shunt Devices at the Suswa and Rabai Substations.
Last month, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) issued a public alert about a fake TikTok account impersonating the agency. The fraudulent account, using the handle “ntsaknya,” was flagged as illegitimate, with NTSA warning Kenyans not to engage with it in any way.
