Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, on Thursday, May 25 paid a visit to the controversial pastor, Paul Mackenzie's, mud house situated deep inside Shakahola Forest in Kilifi County.

Kindiki revealed to Kenyans that Mackenzie of Good News International Church set up his mud house as part of his homestead and had coordinated every bit of his operations.

The CS shared photos of the homestead which comes with its own dam, which was used to grow food crops as part of his farming activities, despite radicalising his followers to starve to death.

The area had three houses without clear demarcation and inside one of the houses was a floor setting strewn with all manner of house items, some broken, indicating a disorganised man without a plan.

CS Kindiki also revealed that the government plans to construct roads in Shakahola Forest to allow police officers access to other areas believed to be part of the crime scene.

"The search and rescue efforts at Shakahola forest continue uninterrupted. The Government will construct security roads within Chakama Ranch to enable the ground troops to comb the expansive forest and combine forces with the team conducting aerial surveillance to ensure any person still holed up in the thickets is rescued.

"Visited part of Shakahola Forest where rogue preacher Mackenzie was residing, constructed dams for irrigation, and was growing various food crops despite radicalising his followers to starve to death," Kindiki updated.

On Monday, May 1, angry Kilifi residents raided Mackenzie's palatial mansion in the Furunzi area after the controversial preacher left in the company of police officers.

It thus raises questions as to how Mackenzie left his luxury home in Malindi to relocate to the forest situated in the middle of nowhere.

In an earlier press briefing, Kindiki revealed that some of Mackenzie's followers holed up in Shakahola forest were attempting to flee towards Galana Kulalu and Tsavo National Park.

He noted that police officers managed to intercept them after combing the area in the search and rescue operation before they could encroach the national park known to be crawling with dangerous wild animals.

"We have information that some of Pastor Paul Mackenzie's followers are fleeing towards Galana Kulalu and Tsavo National Park.

"We will upscale search and rescue efforts by combing every part of the Shakahola Forest to evacuate every person therein, dead or alive," he stated.

The CS further noted that despite the rescue efforts, some of the victims continued to resist by refusing to eat.

He gave an example of a victim who succumbed on Wednesday, May 24, after being taken to the hospital, after he declined to eat, despite being already weak.

Kindiki also revealed that new evidence revealed more graves being discovered at Shakahola forest, thus more time was needed to allow the exhumation exercise to continue.

He extended the measures gazetted on Shakahola forest including the dusk-to-dawn curfew by another 30 days for the exercise to continue without hitches.
