A clip of former Citizen TV anchor, Hussein Mohamed, the William Samoei Ruto (WSR) Presidential Secretariat Director of Communications, pushing aside a mama mboga before the presidential debate has gone viral.

In the 12-second long clip seen by Viral Tea and shared across social media platforms, the woman, Pauline Waithera, was walking with Deputy President William Ruto to the venue of the debate; the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) main campus in Karen, Nairobi before Hussein stopped her.

A frozen picture saw Hussein walking beside Pauline before the clip captured him bursting into the front out of the blue and shoving Waithera aside.

Afterwards, DP Ruto's wife, Mama Rachel Ruto, appeared from behind and Hussein signalled to her to walk beside her husband.

Just before the clip could cut, Hussein could then be seen escorting Waithera back to the front alongside other members of the Kenya Kwanza entourage that had accompanied the second in command to the highly-anticipated event.

Waithera was representing the interests of the mama mboga community and Ruto explained that she accompanied him to the highly-secure event because she has been part of his campaign team.

"I met this great woman (Pauline Waithera) from Kiambu Market in Kangangi where I interacted with her in one of our economic forums discussing the economy of every county,” revealed Ruto.

Also in the entourage was Calvince Okoth, a boda-boda operator based in Kangemi, Dagoretti North whom the deputy described as “a great friend who runs his small hustle and constantly gives us support in the UDA office whenever we need somebody to transport something.”

The duo had memorably accompanied the leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to Bomas of Kenya on Saturday, June 4 when he appeared before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for clearance to run for President in 2022.

Waithera and Okoth presented their Identity Cards in support of DP Ruto's bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, with the former proposing and the latter seconding.

There was earlier drama at the venue when Roots party presidential candidate, George Wajackoyah, narrowly came to blows with a security guard who had stopped part of his entourage from accessing the university.

He proceeded into the venue but stormed out of it shortly after, arguing that it would be unfair to segregate candidates based on their popularity ranking in the latest opinion polls while the elections will be held at once.

Wajackoyah had made a surprise appearance at the campus, having initially declared that he would not attend the debate. He affirmed that he would not get on the podium until he was paired with the rest of the presidential candidates, including Azimio la Umoja flag bearer, Raila Odinga, who officially pulled out of the debate.

Later on, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was blocked from accessing the presidential debate venue by security after Azimio Secretary General Junet Mohamed had hinted at sending Babu to represent Raila.
