The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has addressed widespread complaints regarding delays in accessing the just-released KCPE 2023 results.

The announcement of the release of the results was on Thursday, November 23 met with frustration as candidates and families were unable to access the data close to two hours after the time of publishing this story.

“Dear customer, the KCPE 2023 results are not available. Kindly try again later after the announcement," a text message seen by Viral Tea read.

KNEC in a statement revealed that its technical team was working on solving the issue and would update members of the public once the shortcode is accessible.

Candidates were advised to send an SMS with their Index Number to 40054.

"Greetings, we apologize for the delay in accessing KCPE 2023 results. We will update you once they are available on 40054," the statement read in part, as the council urged parents to check again from 2 pm onwards.

Other than Kenyans online lamenting that they could not access the results, parents countrywide complained that the delays created anxiety among parents, teachers and students who had to patiently wait for the results.

Some lamented that they sent the SMS multiple times, expressing fears that they would be charged a significant amount of money since it only costs Ksh25 per SMS.

"It has created anxiety for everyone including teachers, the parents. I would just request that the next time the results are released, they release what is ready," one of the parents told the media.

"You see if you keep sending then you're charged Ksh25 every time. Next time, they should be considerable."

However, a mobile service provider clarified that users would only be charged upon receiving the results.

"We are aware of the issue and working to resolve and charging has not been effected. You will only be charged upon receiving the results. Please bear with us," the statement read in part.
