Parliament has unveiled a list of 60 individuals nominated for national honours, most of them being elected leaders. The nominees are set to receive their awards during the 2025 Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui County.

Out of the 60, 11 are senators and 35 are Members of the National Assembly, while the remaining 14 are senior government officials from various departments.

The honorees have been recommended for recognition under several categories — including the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS), Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), and Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS).

Among the senators listed is Minority Whip Ledama Olekina, nominated for the EBS award. Others proposed for CBS include Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamating’a and Marsabit’s Mohammed Said Chute.

Also picked are Bungoma’s David Wafula, Taita Taveta’s Johnes Mwashusha, Kwale’s Issa Juma, Elgeyo Marakwet’s William Kipkemoi, Turkana’s James Ekomwa, and nominated senators Veronica Miana, Hamida Kibwana, and Beth Kalunda.

National Assembly Minority Whip Silvanus Osoro was also nominated for the CBS honour, alongside Minority Whip Junet Mohammed, Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss, and several parliamentary committee chairs and vice chairs.

Other MPs on the list include Naisula Lesuuda, Otiende Amolo, Dido Raso, William Kamket, Didmus Barasa, Eve Obara, and Mark Mwenje.

Parliament noted that the list also features key parliamentary staff — including directors and senior officers from both Houses — as well as Senate Clerk and Parliamentary Service Commission Secretary CPA Jeremiah Nyegenye, who was nominated for the CBS.

Additionally, Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati, widow of former IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati and current chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation, has been nominated for the Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (MGH).

Parliament has invited the public to submit any objections or feedback regarding the nominees to the Joint Secretariat of the Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee.

"The views or objections may be forwarded to the Joint Secretariat, Parliamentary Honours Advisory Committee, via email to honours@parliament.go.ke so as to be received on or before Monday, 13th October 2025 at 5.00 pm. Hand-delivered documents shall not be accepted," the statement reads in part.
