Police Name New Spokesperson, Replacing Resila Onyango
Dr Resila Atieno Onyango has served in the role for slightly more than two years.

The National Police Service (NPS) has named Kiambu police commander Michael Nyaga Muchiri as the new NPS Spokesperson.
Sources privy to the major reshuffle that has affected high-ranking police bosses confirmed to Viral Tea on Thursday, January 16. Nyaga replaces Dr Resila Atieno Onyango who has served in the role for slightly more than two years.
Dr Resila was however moved to the Diplomatic Police Unit and named the Commandant. On November 8, 2022, she replaced Bruno Shioso who was at the time promoted to the National Police Service Training Campus commandant in Kiganjo.
Dr Onyango was a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and the Deputy Director of Planning at the Office of the Inspector General of Police. She was the first female police officer in the history of the NPS to earn a Doctorate degree.

In another high-profile change, Nairobi Regional Police boss Adamson Bungei has been recalled to the police headquarters and named the Director of Operations. He takes over from William Yiampoy, whose next assignment remains unclear.
Bungei was replaced by Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah as the Nairobi police boss.
Bungei was appointed as the Nairobi Police Commander on November 14, 2022. Before this appointment, he served as the Baringo County Police Commander and had previously held positions as the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) for Buruburu and Central in Nairobi.
Other Changes
Kwale County Police Commander Ali Nuno was promoted and named the Coast Regional Police Commander to replace Sedah (now Nairobi Police regional commander).
Amos Omuga, the head of legal services at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI), was moved to the NPS headquarters in the same capacity.
Head of the National Forensics Laboratory at the DCI headquarters Dr Mwangi Wanderi was transferred to Vigilance House and named the Director of Human Capital. He will replace Rosemary Kuraru who was sent to DCI as head of the National Forensics Laboratory.
The head of the Serious Crime Unit (SCU) at DCI Michael Sang was transferred to the Eastern region as the regional head of the DCI.
Additional Deployments
Judy Jebet has been appointed as the new head of community policing, replacing John Gachomo, who has been redeployed to police headquarters.
Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit, Rhoda Kinanu, has been redeployed to police headquarters.
Eastern Regional Head of DCI, Daniel Korir, has been transferred to the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) as its new commandant.
Why The Changes Matter
These changes are part of plans to revamp the security sector which has recently seen other changes including the recent Cabinet reassignments where Kipchumba Murkomen was named Interior Cabinet Secretary by President William Ruto.
