The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced longer working hours to help Kenyans submit their 2024 income tax returns.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 20, KRA said its service centres and Huduma Centres will now operate for extended hours to ensure everyone with a KRA PIN meets the June 30 filing deadline.

Filing an income tax return means reporting your earnings for the year, and it is mandatory for anyone with a KRA PIN, whether you made an income or not.

Under the updated schedule, KRA service centres and Huduma Centres in high-traffic areas will now be open from 7 AM to 7 PM on weekdays, giving people a 12-hour window to get their returns done.

On Saturdays, only KRA tax service centres will be open, from 9 AM to 1 PM, while Huduma Centres will stay closed. However, on Saturday, June 28, tax service centres will have extended hours, running from 9 AM to 6 PM.

For the rest of the week, Huduma Centres will stick to their usual schedule, open from 8 AM to 5 PM on weekdays and closed over the weekend.

If you need help from KRA officers via email or phone, you are advised to reach out between 7 AM and 7 PM on weekdays, and from 9 AM to 1 PM on weekends.

KRA also confirmed that on the final day to file returns—June 30—all their offices nationwide will stay open for 17 hours straight, from 7 AM until midnight.

"Have you filed your 2024 income tax returns? We have extended our working hours at our Service Centres, select Huduma Centres and Contact Centre to help you beat the 30th June deadline," KRA announced.

KRA is encouraging Kenyans to file their tax returns via the iTax portal at itax.kra.go.ke. Even if you didn’t earn any income, you still need to submit a NIL return.

The Authority warned that anyone who doesn’t file by the June 30 deadline will be hit with a Ksh2,000 fine or a 5 per cent penalty based on their total income, whichever is higher.

Even those who are exempt from paying income tax, like persons with disabilities, must still file a return and include a valid Exemption Certificate Number.
