Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, March 31, deemed President William Ruto a pathological liar after the Head of State spilt the beans on behind-the-scenes events that led to Gachagua's impeachment last year.

In a post on his social media handles, Gachagua dismissed a series of Ruto's allegations, including one where he claimed that Gachagua allegedly tried to blackmail him with Ksh10 billion in exchange for securing political support in the Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua, in his usual 'shooting from the hip' fashion, seemingly hinted at the Head of State and his team suffering from a mental illness.

"I am now convinced more than ever before that pathological lying is a mental disorder. The greatest existential threat to our beloved country is outright lying to the people of Kenya without blinking, and failure by a leader to put their team together to harmonise their lies. I weep for my Country, Kenya," he posted.

The dispute between the two escalated during a televised interview where Ruto faced journalists from vernacular stations from the Mt Kenya region at the Sagana State Lodge, hours before he is set to commence his four-day tour of the region.

Ruto alleged that Gachagua started politically targeting him after clashing with several Members of Parliament, further claiming that Gachagua demanded Ksh10 billion with a warning that if the request was not met, it would jeopardize Ruto’s chances of re-election in 2027.

"At some point, I told Rigathi Gachagua to stop fighting the MPs, but he now shifted his fights to me, claiming that he could make me a one-term president if I did not meet his demands. He demanded Ksh10 billion so that he could go talk with the people of the Mt. Kenya region, but I told him I would not do it.

"I told him that if I were to only serve for one term, then there would be no problem. I told him if he is the one who decides who will serve how many terms, then he was at liberty to make that decision," he said.

At the same time, Ruto also opened up about the difficulties of working with Gachagua, highlighting several instances where he clashed with government officials.

He recalled that Gachagua had been involved in a series of minor disputes, including conflicts with blogger Dennis Itumbi and officials such as Ndindi Nyoro and Kimani Ichung’wah. Ruto stated that he had urged Gachagua to prioritize governance over personal disagreements.

"I’m the one who nominated Rigathi Gachagua with my one vote. After the elections, we started working, three things came out. The first, the issue of cases everyday. I asked him ‘you are a Deputy President, what is the reason for clashing with blogger Dennis Itumbi?’ The office PA, the young men of Ndindi Nyoro, Kimani Ichung’wah, I asked him what the reason was for these petty fights?" he posed.

"I told him (Rigathi Gachagua), let us work for Kenyans and leave these petty cases alone. There he was, starting fights with MPs who moved to impeach him in Parliament."

The President also recounted how Gachagua heightened tensions with Members of Parliament, allegedly threatening to have them removed if they did not back him. “‘Before December, if you don’t go down on your knees for me, you’ll go home.',"  Ruto quoted Gachagua as saying,

Adding "The MPs said that by December, we will deal with him. He was the one who started fighting with the MPs."
