Police officers from the Mutitu Police Station have arrested a 33-year-old man possessing government-issued uniforms and accessories, raising concerns over the potential misuse of official gear.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, April 1, the suspect, identified as Ernest Musyoka, was apprehended at his home in Itiko village following a police operation.

Musyoka was already wanted for allegedly making death threats and assaulting an individual. During the raid, officers discovered a stockpile of government-issued items in his possession.

"Upon searching the house, officers recovered an array of government stores, including a senior APS officer's sweater, a former maroon APS sweater, and a green jungle sweater," stated the DCI in part.

"The haul also included three jungle belts, two pairs of APS trousers, three black berets, three jungle t-shirts, and four pairs of green socks. Additionally, officers recovered an NYS green sweater and two NYS shirts."

Musyoka is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are probing how he acquired the uniforms and whether they were intended for illegal activities.

Following his arrest, he is set to face charges in court upon the completion of processing. His arrest is not an isolated case; numerous other criminals have been apprehended in the past wearing police uniforms and military fatigues while carrying out crimes.

On June 10, 2023, DCI exposed the identity of a suspect believed to be part of a gang who posed as police officers and robbed Ksh4 million from a Chinese couple in their car, stating that the suspect was part of a five-man gang that included three men dressed in police uniforms.

In other news, in a major breakthrough against highway crime, police officers from Voi Police Station have arrested three notorious highway robbers who had managed to evade capture for an extended period.

The suspects, identified as Joseph Macharia Mwangi, 40, Peter Muchemi Maina, 36, and Agnes Malemba Mshenga, 32, were apprehended following a well-coordinated surveillance operation along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

"The trio was intercepted at Vacani Resort while traveling in a white Subaru Legacy with the license plate KCJ 842Z. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, officers uncovered three sets of reflective number plates: KCR 879U, KCA 583L, and KAZ 946L," stated the DCI in part.

Additionally, officers recovered an assortment of incriminating items, including jungle uniforms, a kitchen knife, two Maasai swords, and a mechanics kit equipped with spanners, a jack, pressure pumps, puncture repair tools, brake pads, and various house-breaking implements.

The suspects are currently being held at Voi Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities are piecing together evidence before presenting the suspects in court to face multiple charges related to highway robbery and illegal possession of suspected stolen property.
