Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege on Wednesday, June 7 called upon National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, to provide assistance to her ahead of her removal as the Deputy Minority Whip of the National Assembly (NA).

Speaking during the National Prayer Breakfast held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, Chege implored Wetangula to help her navigate what she termed as a difficult challenge.

She however stood firm on her ambition to put the needs of Kenya ahead of her own, noting that she had done nothing wrong in warranting her removal by the Azimio la Umoja coalition for courting President William Ruto's government.

"The best thing I did was not to run away from them but just think bigger picture about Kenya. As they plan to remove me as Deputy minority whip Mr Speaker, I hope that you look at me with a better eye," she said.

"There is nothing wrong I have done. The only thing I have done is to think about Kenya first and not myself. Hopefully, Kenya is going to rise."

In the spirit of reconciliation, which was the theme of the National Prayer Breakfast, Chege urged the Azimio leadership to accept that they were defeated in the 2022 general elections, noting that the new leadership is already in place.

She called for the country to move forward by accepting the will of God and for the Azimio team to work with the current regime for the betterment of the country and its people.

"Some of us in Azimio have chosen the path of reconciliation. I want to ask others to accept God's will.

"It is important we accept the will of God and support the government of the day, not for ourselves but for the betterment of Kenya," she added.

Chege went on to explain why she opted to work with the Kenya Kwanza government citing a Swahili saying that "one who does not accept defeat is not a worthy competitor".

Speaking at the Azimio la Umoja Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting on Tuesday, May 30, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi announced Embakasi West Member of Parliament Mark Mwenje as Chege's replacement.

"In furtherance of those resolutions by Jubilee NDC, Azimio has today settled on Hon. Mark Mwenje, MP, Embakasi West, as Deputy Minority Whip of the National Assembly, replacing Nominated MP Hon. Sabina Chege, who has since joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

"We recognize Hon. Mwenje as a committed, consistent, energetic and youthful fighter who has shown the will to stand up for the people and the party. We have no doubt that he will prove equal to the task," Wandayi stated.

Wetangula had previously rescued Chege from her ouster in the NA on Thursday, May 4 after he revealed that Azimio committed an error that saw her position as Deputy Minority Whip retained.

Wetangula revealed that while Standing Orders dictate that Sabina Chege should be removed and replaced immediately, with the exercises conducted simultaneously, Jubilee and Azimio La Umoja had only pushed for Chege's ouster, without announcing her replacement.
