A tragic road accident occurred along the Ruaka-Githogoro highway near Two Rivers Mall on Friday morning, March 21, with several people feared dead and others critically injured.
The crash happened when a 14-seater matatu lost control, veered off the road, and plunged into a ditch after colliding with a billboard.
According to eyewitnesses, the matatu, which was travelling from Ruaka to Kiambu Town, was moving at high speed when the accident took place.
Videos and images circulating on social media show the wreckage severely damaged, with a shattered windscreen and broken seats.

The footage also revealed shattered glass scattered across the road, while a group of locals was seen trying to rescue those trapped in the wreckage.
After the accident, the injured were swiftly taken to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital for treatment, as police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.
The Ruaka-Githogoro highway, a vital route linking Ruaka to nearby towns, has witnessed multiple accidents in recent years.
The accident occurred exactly a week after a tragic crash in the Migaa area along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway, where 13 people lost their lives in a collision between a trailer and a 14-seater matatu.
According to a police report, the March 14 incident happened when a trailer transporting coffee seeds lost control and crashed into an oncoming matatu filled with passengers.
Authorities stated that the trailer experienced brake failure while approaching a known black spot, leading to a head-on collision that killed 12 people instantly.
Footage from the scene showed the matatu severely wrecked, while the trailer sustained damage mainly to its front. Images also captured rescuers struggling to retrieve the victims’ bodies from the wreckage.
The accident, which occurred at 7 am, caused a major traffic jam along the busy highway, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid the congestion.
