Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko on Saturday, October 28 showcased his flamboyant lifestyle by splashing more than Ksh1 million on alcohol to gift retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, who celebrated his 62nd birthday on Thursday, October 26.

Sonko was accompanied to a liquor store by an entire motorcade consisting of a GMC Sierra 1500 Pickup Truck which he was driving, two Lexus LX 570 SUVs and a Mercedes Benz in chrome-green paint.

The former county boss was received by his aides at the store along Kiambu Road where he purchased six brands of Whiskey at Ksh1,029,000.

In a video he shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Sonko was captured buying one of the alcoholic drinks priced at Ksh221,000 while his aides assisted in pushing the trolley loaded with the exquisite drinks around, all the way to the counter.

Watch it below:

During payment, Sonko showcased the final bill, read out by the cashier, which stood out at Ksh1.03 million. He cleared the bill using his debit card and supervised his aides as they loaded the precious gifts into his GMC pickup truck.

Afterwards, he stood on the sidelines and serenaded Uhuru with a birthday song.

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday to you, dear Kenyatta

Happy birthday to you

Sonko also shared that he gifted Uhuru a birthday card and a cake whose prices he did not disclose as he reminisced about the good friendship he shared with the former Head of State.

"It is written in the book of Mathew 5:43. "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." I celebrate the former President H.E Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. May the Good Lord give him good health and a long life as he celebrates his 62nd birthday.

"I have gifted him with a cake, card, and some finest drinks as a sign of missing the happy good days we used to spend together before and after he became president," part of the statement read.

He also pleaded with Uhuru for forgiveness for the bad blood the two had when Uhuru was President of the Republic of Kenya.

"Happy birthday, my brother, and may your additional year bring you happiness. May God forgive me for the insults, unkind words, and anything I have said to provoke you in revenge. I have also forgiven you for all the wrongdoings and persecution. May you live long. God bless you and your family," he stated.

He, however, did not indicate whether he personally gifted Uhuru with the gifts nor sent them as a delivery. Uhuru's whereabouts are still unknown since he proceeded to the United Kingdom (UK) for a holiday in July 2023.

The duo fell out in Uhuru's second term as President, with Sonko accusing the former of sabotaging his reign as Nairobi governor. Sonko, who was impeached on Thursday night, December 17, barely two years past his election.

Meanwhile, Uhuru was on his special day treated to a surprise phone call from Kameme FM on his birthday, making it another instance he has broken his silence after months.

The station's morning show host, Muthoni wa Kihumba, called the former Head of State during a live show to wish him a Happy Birthday as he turned 62 years old. The jovial 4th President of the Republic of Kenya remarked that his birthday came on the same year Kenya was celebrating 60 years of independence.

However, Uhuru playfully turned down an opportunity to talk more about his age milestone, only restating the famous phrase that life begins at 40.

"Stop asking about my age, I am glad about the years that God has given me.

"Yes, life starts at 40 and I can guarantee you that mine passed a long time ago. I pray that God gives me a long life, good health, and peace in our country which is now 60 years as well," he stated.

Uhuru also declined to reveal what he has been up to and where he has been going, even though he was pressed to disclose more.

Kihumba asked him to choose a special song in tribute to his special day, and being a staunch reggae fan, he settled on I Got You Babe by his favourite band - UB40.

Uhuru has largely kept off the public spotlight, but his last public appearance was at the Azimio la Umoja interdenominational prayer service held in memory of those who lost their lives during the anti-government protests.
