Strathmore, USIU Top List Of Kenya Private Universities In New Ranking [FULL LIST]

UniRank ranked the Kenyan universities on the basis of being chartered, licensed, or accredited by the Ministry of Education and Commission for University Education of Kenya.

Leading international higher education directory UniRank on Monday, June 12 released its rankings of the top universities in Kenya 2023.

The global education and search engine placed Strathmore University a slot higher than the United States International University-Africa (USIU), with both universities occupying the top two positions in the private universities ranking.

The two tertiary institutions based in Nairobi were followed by Thika-based Mount Kenya University (MKU) in third and The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in fourth. Kenya Methodist University completed the top five.

Nationally, Strathmore and USIU came in third and fourth respectively behind the University of Nairobi (UoN) and Kenyatta University (KU) who occupied the top two spots.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) (5th) and Egerton University (6th) overtook MKU in seventh, with Moi University in Eldoret, Technical University of Kenya (TUK) coming in eighth and ninth ahead of CUEA.

UniRank ranked the Kenyan universities on the basis of being chartered, licensed, or accredited by the Ministry of Education and Commission for University Education of Kenya.

It also looked at whether the institutions offer at least three-year bachelor's degrees or postgraduate master's or doctoral degrees and if they deliver courses predominantly in a traditional, non-distance education format.

"uniRank aims to provide a non-academic League Table of the top Private Kenyan Universities based on valid, unbiased and non-influenceable web metrics provided by independent web intelligence sources rather than data submitted by the Universities themselves," the search engine explained on its official website.
