Popular matatu sacco, Super Metro has announced that it has expanded its extensive route network to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with free rides on its inaugural trip.

In a statement on Monday, October 9, the Sacco announced that the buses will be departing from the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) terminus to the airport as part of its new strategy to open up easy access to the airport for passengers aiming to catch their flights on time.

The new route will not only see more new buses deployed but also electric buses used as a modernization strategy.

"Soon we'll be launching new electric buses and more of the 7th Generation NQR series which will be operating from the CBD straight to JOMO KENYATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT(JKIA).

"We will keep you posted. We thank you all for your continued support and for believing in our brand," stated Super Metro in part.

The Sacco has yet to reveal where exactly the main stage for the new route will be in the CBD as well as the exact launch date.

However, most company operations are conducted next to Nairobi Archives for buses plying Waiyaki Way and Thika Road. The stage for their buses heading to Kitengela is located at Ronald Ngala in downtown Nairobi.

Commuters will also be anticipating the prices of the new route after the expiry of the free rides for the inaugural trip, with most matatu saccos charging between Ksh50 and Ksh70 from the CBD to the Airport.

CBD to JKIA is estimated to be around 20 to 30 minutes, that is, without the traffic snarl-up, a journey cut to 12 minutes if one were to use the Nairobi Expressway.

The Sacco has been rapidly expanding across the Nairobi Metropolitan and reaching out to customers living in various satellite towns by tapping into key routes to stamp its authority in the industry.

In addition, its affordable fares compared to other matatu saccos and professionalism, especially among its conductors have made Super Metro a fan favourite amongst Nairobi commuters.

The Sacco was well known for operating the Kikuyu Route 105 and along Thika road (Juja 236 to Makongeni 237) routes before it expanded quickly to other routes to meet customer demand.

In addition, it has put in place strict rules that investors, drivers and conductors have to follow or risk being kicked out of the Sacco. This includes the vehicles being in tip-top shape all the time and if a bus is spotted having broken down while ferrying passengers could attract disciplinary action.

Super Metro's continued desire for improvement in service delivery to Nairobi commuters has helped it win over its customer base.

To be specific, Nairobians opt to withstand long queues at its termini in the CBD to get a customer-first service.
