President William Ruto on Friday, October 6 warned that those behind the Sondu clashes that have seen at least seven people killed will be dealt with conclusively according to the law.

Speaking in Siaya County when his four-day Nyanza tour kicked off, Ruto revealed that he instructed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to take action against those involved.

He broke his silence for the first time after the Azimio la Umoja coalition pinned blame on Kenya Kwanza political leaders for fuelling the clashes splitting communities from the two counties and pitting them against each other.

"There are people taking us back by pitting communities and neighbours against each other. I have already directed Interior CS Kithure Kindiki that just like we are dealing with North Rift bandits and Alshabaab, the gangs in Sondu will face the full force of the law," declared the Head of State.

The President further preached against tribalism stating that the country should be united despite differences that may emerge among people.

Ruto called for all those involved in the planning of the deaths to be arrested and jailed.

"We don't want foolishness and tribalism. We all live in one Kenya, and the Kenyan government is the government of every Kenyan," Ruto remarked.

"I have told Kindiki to ensure that anyone who caused a citizen to lose their life must be arrested and taken to jail because killing a fellow citizen is unacceptable; they can go on that third journey, but they will go through the court process first."

Kindiki on Thursday, October 5 announced that the government deployed a contingent of specialist security personnel to contain the escalation of violent crime in Sondu Town and its environs.

"The special deployment is to be supervised jointly by the Rift Valley and Nyanza regional security teams with firm instructions to ensure immediate resumption of normalcy and the arrest and prosecution of each and every perpetrator of the horrific crimes that have been committed against the people of Sondu Town and its environs.

"In the meantime, it has been decided to transfer all local security heads on both sides of the border and other security and public officers whose want of effectiveness, impartiality and/or competence is deemed to have resulted in the success of the criminals," stated Kindiki.

The Azimio coalition had also linked senior leaders from Kericho including the governor Dr. Eric Mutai to the clashes that broke out on the border of Kisumu and Kericho counties in Sondu that have so far killed seven people.

"Big names are behind this violence. They include leaders and politicians in neighbouring counties and in the national government," claimed Azimio.

"In particular, we are demanding investigations to be carried out upon individuals who have been mentioned as sponsors of the violence, who include the Kericho County Governor, Dr Eric Mutai."
