Julia Majale, the Managing Director of TUKO.co.ke, was honoured with the prestigious Pioneer/Trailblazer Award from the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG).

Alongside seasoned journalist and lawyer Gitobu Imanyara and Oloo Janak, Chair of the Kenya Correspondents Association, Majale was lauded for her exceptional efforts in pushing the boundaries of journalism with the TUKO.co.ke news website.

KEG took to X on Wednesday, April 24 sharing photos of the former Capital FM journalist receiving the prestigious trophy, sculpted to represent an eagle swooping down to catch its prey.

KEG President Zubeidah Kananu commended Majale's dedication to advancing the field of journalism in Kenya, currently adapting to the demands of digital disruption.

She highlighted Majale's pivotal role in leading the media digital disruption and reshaping the landscape of digital journalism through TUKO.co.ke, a news platform known for its commitment to accuracy, integrity, and innovation.

"As media leaders, we must work together to build a stronger foundation for digital media in Kenya as the future of media. Julia's efforts as managing editor and now managing director at TUKO.co.ke are shaping that narrative and introducing new media systems that are trailblazing for others to follow," she stated.

Upon receiving the award, Majale expressed her gratitude to the Kenya Editors Guild and reaffirmed her commitment to upholding journalistic integrity and promoting media freedom and development.

She dedicated the award to the entire TUKO.co.ke team, whose dedication and hard work have been instrumental in the platform's success.

"Being recognised alongside the esteemed trailblazers of Kenya's media landscape is truly humbling. At TUKO.co.ke, we draw inspiration from their tireless advocacy for media freedom and autonomy.

"Leading a digital news team on a path less travelled has been both exhilarating and challenging, but above all, incredibly rewarding," she commented.

The Trailblazer Award serves as a testament to Julia Majale's enduring impact on the journalism landscape in Kenya and her relentless pursuit of excellence in the field.

Renowned media organizations such as WAN-IFRA Women in News and Aga Khan University came forth to congratulate Majale on her win.

She joins the likes of Alex Chamwada who was presented with the award on December 3, 2023, a day after he marked 10 years since starting Chams Media despite financial woes and uncertainty.

Coincidentally, the fete came three days before Majale's first anniversary of being promoted to TUKO.co.ke's Managing Director (MD) from the Managing Editor position in changes that affected the digital media house's top leadership, which happens to be on this date at the time of publishing this article.

Majale took over from digital strategist, Gibendi Ramenya, who joined TV47 and Radio 47's Cape Media Limited as its Head of Digital Innovations.
