President William Ruto has revealed that more than 30 Members of Parliament (MPs) allied to the former ruling Jubilee Party have pledged to work with the government to advance its development agenda.

The lawmakers said it is time to put political differences aside and work for the people, according to a statement by State House.

They were speaking on Wednesday, February 8 when they met President Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at State House. The President stated that it was inevitable for leaders to work together, noting that "the people who elected you are the same people who elected us".

"You have a right to make choices as Kenya is a democratic country. You are now our members and we will treat you as such," the President said.

He noted that Parliament is a critical platform for enacting laws on the Government’s agenda.

"We will be seeking your support on Bills and regulations on the Housing Fund, Water Purchasing Agreements, among others," President Ruto said.

Due to the ongoing drought, the President said the Government will scale up food and water provision from next week.

The parliamentarians were led by Balambala MP Omar Shurie, Eldas MP Adan Keynan and Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo. They said their party has a close relationship with the President, and all they have done is "to come back home".

Others in attendance include MPs Sabina Chege (Nominated), Margaret Kamar, Yusuf Hassan (Kamukunji) and Adan Keynan (Eldas).

"We want to be part of this government having been together before the last elections," pleaded Eldas MP Adan Keynan

"At this rate, we will close down our Jubilee house and join you because we are one," Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere weighed in.

"We don't want to feel left out in your government so we kindly request you to include us in your development plans," stated Nominated MP Sabina Chege.

The Head of State has been on a seeming-charm offensive against the opposition if meetings with parties affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja coalition are anything to go by.

It was only hours ago that President Ruto met nine ODM MPs from the Nyanza region, a move which rattled the party to the point of issuing a charged statement criticising them.

These included Shakeel Shabir (Independent - Kisumu Town East), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Paul Abuor (Rongo) and Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang'o), with the meeting unsettling the ODM party which issued a hard-hitting statement.

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina earlier on called on Jubilee Party leader and former President Uhuru Kenyatta to put his house in order.
