Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Thursday, November 7 congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 elections this week.
In a statement, Atwoli remarked that Kenyan workers had welcomed his re-election warmly and with a lot of excitement at a critical time for the superpower nation.
Atwoli thanked God for protecting Trump and wished him favour in his second term, amidst concerns that the Trump administration could test the strong ties between Kenya and the United States.

"The Central Organization of Trade Unions (Kenya), COTU (K), would like to congratulate President-elect Donald J. Trump following his election as the 47th President of the United States of America. Indeed, we thank God for saving and protecting Trump to lead America at such a critical time," he said.
"The news of the election of President Donald Trump was received warmly and with a lot of excitement by Kenyan workers considering the strong relationship between Kenya and the United States."
According to the firebrand unionist, countries needed strong leaders and that they would benefit from Trump's leadership as he does not shy away from declaring his stand on several key issues.
Atwoli also termed Trump’s win as a fresh air of sanity that would bring global stability to the global stage.
"Noteworthy, countries the world over are in dire need of strong leaders who are equally God-fearing and can take decisive action on numerous issues on the global stage. As such, the election of President Trump is not only a win for stability on the global stage but also fresh air of sanity and action-oriented leadership," he continued.
"As Kenyan workers, it remains our hope and trust that President Trump will usher in the much-needed sanity consideration of the rise of ungodly leaders with ungodly public policies, which transcend their borders, on the very platform. Kenyan workers are a people from a God-fearing nation and thus we will always stand with President Donald J. Trump."
Atwoli expressed hope and trust that President Trump will recognize and work with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) to enhance the welfare and interests of the American Workers whose votes contributed to his victory.
His statement came as several other Kenyan politicians congratulated Trump and expressed optimism about his leadership.
President William Ruto, in his congratulatory message, hailed Trump's victory as a testament to the resolve of the American people to express confidence in the latter's leadership.
"Your victory is a testament to the firm resolve of the American people to repose confidence in your visionary, bold and innovative leadership. As you embark on this phase of your journey of leadership, Kenya stands ready to further enhance our cooperation on matters of mutual interest including trade, investment, technology & innovation, peace and security, and sustainable development," Ruto expressed his eagerness to cooperate with Trump.
"Kenya values its longstanding partnership with the United States spanning over sixty years grounded in our shared values of democracy, development and mutual respect. We look forward to deepening our collaboration under your leadership as we work together to address global challenges, promote peace and security and foster inclusive economic growth for the benefit of our people."
Ruto had joined a string of world leaders to extend an early congratulatory message to Trump as other nations seek early allegiances with the US, which is a known world economic superpower.
