President William Ruto on Thursday, September 7 flew out of the country to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to attend the ongoing Africa Food Systems Summit.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed indicated that Ruto will be amongst other Heads of State for the 13th summit aimed at discussing matters of food security in the continent.

"President William Ruto among other Heads of State and Government attending the 13th Africa Food Systems Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania today to discuss crucial issues of food security, sustainability, and innovation," Mohamed tweeted.

The Summit, which is being held at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre (JNICC), is themed "Recover, Regenerate, Act: Africa's Solutions for Food Systems Transformation".

The food systems summit will also focus on building back better food systems and food sovereignty with youth and women at the centre.

Sustainability and innovation in the agriculture sector will also be of focus in the event hosted by President Samia Suluhu of Tanzania.

Other issues are recovery calls for decisive strategies and actions to rebuild food systems after multiple crises and shocks and regenerating emphasis on the need to regenerate natural capital resources with adaptation practices.

According to the Summit programme, the event commenced on September 5 and will conclude on Friday, September 8.

"The Africa Food Systems Forum brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including experts, policymakers, and representatives from various sectors of the food industry," read the Summits programme.

"Networking and Partnerships The forum serves as a unique platform for CEOs to build meaningful connections and partnerships within the food and agriculture sector."

It was however not established if Ruto will return on the same day or after the summit concludes.

At the Summit, Ruto will also be joining other notable Kenyans who have been selected as guest speakers including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange.

The summit comes barely a day after President Ruto hosted over 14 presidents at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for the Africa Climate Summit.

The ACS, which also attracted over 16,000 international delegates, was also attended by the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General and the President of the European Union.
