President Uhuru Kenyatta has faulted Kenyans for the decisions they made in the August 9 General Elections.

Speaking during an Azimio la Umoja parliamentary group at the Maasai Lodge on Wednesday, September 7, Uhuru stated that they denied themselves the opportunity of having a united country.

"You denied yourself an opportunity to bring the country together, you haven't denied Raila," the outgoing Head of State remarked.

He reiterated that he will hand over power peacefully to President-elect, William Ruto, whose victory in the elections was upheld by the Supreme Court. This is in accordance with the law.

However, it did not mean that he was supporting Ruto and that his choice has always been Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga.

"I will hand over power smiling because it's my Constitutional duty but my leader is Baba, Raila Odinga. Politics is not a matter to keep in your pockets," he stated.

Uhuru avoided mentioning his successor in the open while congratulating all elected leaders and questioning the Supreme Court judgement.

"We must ask ourselves, is it about numbers or is it about the process? Which of these two is it? Can our institutions rule one way in one election and another way in another election without scrutiny?" he posed.

He added that the court's decision ought to be scrutinised so that the country's democracy is made stronger. He nonetheless assured the country that there will be a smooth transition and that the process had begun.

"Today, the supreme court made a ruling on the presidential dispute upholding the results announced by IEBC. In keeping to the pledge that I made to uphold the rule of law, I commit to executing the orders of this court to the letter.

"It is my intention to oversee a smooth transition to the next administration and all the necessary orders to facilitate this process have already been issued," he said.

On the massive defections from Azimio to Kenya Kwanza, Uhuru advised the Azimio MPs to stay in the coalition, insisting that it held the majority.

“Tomorrow I want to see whether you are in Azimio, if you are in Azimio stay in Azimio,” the outgoing President said.

Uhuru then endorsed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the race for the speakers' positions in the upcoming National Assembly and Senatorial elections, terming him as the best man to keep Ruto's cabinet accountable.

"Stephen Kalonzo would have been the best chief minister. I believe he would also have been a good representative of our agenda in Senate," he added.
