A postmortem examination on Tuesday, March 25, confirmed that Amos Langat, who was allegedly shot and killed by a police officer, Mohamed Yusuf Keinan, attached to the office of State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, was shot seven times at close range.

Langat was earlier reported to have lost his life during a dispute at a pool hall in Amboseli, Kawangware, on Sunday night, a confrontation that escalated into gunfire.

According to his family, he was shot four times in the stomach and three times in the chest following the altercation.

Despite the gravity of the incident, the suspect is reported to have been hospitalized and has yet to be formally arrested, though authorities state he is under police guard.

At Chiromo Funeral Parlour, grief and sorrow filled the room as Langat’s family and friends gathered for the postmortem results. Also present were officers from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), now investigating the case involving Keinan.

The autopsy confirmed the worst fears of Langat’s loved ones, that he sustained a total of seven gunshot wounds, with four to the stomach and three to the chest.

"Our loved one was shot in the chest, the bullet tore through his heart—we saw it and we wept. We are making plans to take him home since he has passed away," Langat’s brother, Enoch Langat, revealed.

According to Langat’s Friend Joel Chemisto, "He was shot several times in the stomach, I'm the one who counted, and it was around seven."

What started as a casual game of pool turned into a death sentence, with Chemisto pleading with the government to intervene, stating that the young Amos tied the knot the day before and had a child who had no clue what transpired.

Burdened by grief, Langat’s family is finalizing plans to transport his body to Bureti, Kericho County. While the burial date is yet to be determined, their call for justice remains steadfast.

Meanwhile, the main suspect, Mohamed Yusuf Keinan, has not been arrested. Instead, he admitted himself to a local hospital, claiming injuries to his hand and shoulder.

Detectives confirm he is under police watch as they await a medical report, which could influence the next steps in the investigation, amidst conflicting reports arising over whether the shooting was an act of self-defence or a dispute that escalated.

If the bodyguard’s self-defence claim is validated, he may avoid legal consequences. However, if evidence confirms that the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute, he could face criminal charges, including manslaughter or murder.
