Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and former Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege have been picked by the Azimio la Umoja coalition for two of the prime posts in Parliament.

Junet was proposed for the majority whip position and will be deputized by Chege. He held the seat in the 12th Parliament.

The coalition has also nominated Ugunja MP, Opiyo Wandayi, as the leader of the majority position in the National Assembly.

Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka announced the list on Saturday, September 17 at Azimio La Umoja parliamentary group in Athi River

In the Senate where Azimio is one senator short, the coalition opted for the minority seats.

Kilifi senator, Stewart Madzayo, was nominated as the leader of the minority. He will be deputised by Kitui senator, Enock Wambua.

Isiolo County senator, Fatuma Dulo was decided upon as the minority whip. Dulo will be deputised by Nairobi senator, Edwin Sifuna.

The Azimio coalition leadership has maintained that they are the majority side in the National Assembly despite losing some of its members to Kenya Kwanza.

Kenya Kwanza is also expected to name its lineup today in Naivasha whereby President William Ruto is attending a PG function similar to that of the opposition.

On Friday, September 16, Ruto downplayed claims by Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga that the opposition was poised to take control of both Houses of Parliament with their majority members.

Ruto also announced that members of the opposition would not be appointed to his government, saying that he wants an opposition that will hold his administration accountable.

"I have heard our competitors trying to say they have numbers, if they cannot even raise a candidate for the Senate Speaker position what numbers do they have? There is no need to bring a contest where there is none.

"We are not going to appoint any member of the opposition into government because we want a vibrant opposition, we want an opposition that will keep the government in check. We want to run an accountable government; we have nothing to hide," he said.

However, National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, will rule on which faction takes the majority and the minority side in the August House.
