The age of Ann Akinyi Adhiambo, the main suspect in the heinous murder of Nairobi Hospital Acting Finance Director Eric Maigo has been revealed to be over 18 years old and therefore fit to stand trial.

Doctors at the Mathari Hospital in Nairobi have proved that Adhiambo is of sound mind and over the age of 18, therefore she is an adult fit to stand trial.

According to tests, Adhiambo was revealed to be between the ages of 20 and 21, contrary to previous reports that indicated the possibility of her being a minor between 15 to 17 years old.

On the lapse of 21 days on the 28th of this month (October), she is set to face charges for the murder of the Nairobi Hospital Finance Director.

Maigo was on Friday, September 15 found dead in his home in Woodley Estate, Nairobi County, lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom bearing 25 stab wounds. Two kitchen knives preserved as evidence were recovered from the scene.

Adhiambo was finally tracked down and arrested in Kibera slums in an intelligence-led operation by DCI detectives.

The arrest came after DCI released photos of her while she was captured on CCTV escaping Maigo's residence in Woodley, Nairobi County, which led to detectives recovering her clothes.

On Wednesday, September 27, Adhiambo claimed that she stabbed Maigo in self-defence, reacting to being a victim of sexual assault.

Adhiambo reportedly told detectives handling the case that Maigo picked her up from the roadside after her guardian kicked her out of her house following a misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, the suspect was arraigned before Magistrate Zainabu Abdul at the Milimani Law Courts on a miscellaneous application filed by Corporal Patrick Boge.

The police officer indicated that police needed to conduct mental and age assessments on the suspect as required before one faces murder charges.

The court granted the application allowing detectives to detain the accused for the next 21 days pending investigations. On the lapse of 21 days on the 28th of this month (October), she is set to face charges for the murder of the Nairobi Hospital Finance Director.

Adhiambo already recorded a statement with the police and will await her trial after the 21-day lapse.

The late Maigo was laid to rest in his home at Kiumbu in Kisii County in a low-key burial ceremony as the family did not want the presence of the media, which the family accused of misreporting Maigo's murder.

They demanded justice from the authorities, claiming a cover-up in Maigo's murder, whose motive was yet to be established.
