Provisional results of the Tuesday, August 9, 2022, general elections have begun streaming in across the country, with the IEBC announcing them in concurrence with local media houses.

However, even before the official results are announced, some politicians have already conceded defeat in the polls, and some announced as early as Tuesday night, hours after the tallying began.

Viral Tea takes a look at who has conceded defeat in the August 9 polls;

Outgoing Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria was among the first to announce that he has conceded defeat in the Kiambu gubernatorial race even before the official results were announced by the IEBC.

He was vying against Kimani Wamatangi (UDA), James Nyoro (incumbent & Jubilee), William Kabogo (Tujibebe), and independent candidate Patrick Wainaina, popularly known as 'jungle'.

In his statement on Facebook, he also announced that he was bowing out of elective politics, having promised to do so in a statement on Tuesday, July 12.

"I enjoyed every minute of my 8 years in elective politics. Back to the private sector. Happily," he wrote.

Kuria was with his running mate, Faith Mwaura, who was initially eyeing the Roysambu constituency seat.

His Gatundu North counterpart, Anne Wanjiku Kibe also conceded defeat in the race to defend her seat. She thanked the Gatundu North residents for according her the opportunity to serve in the past five years. 

"I wish to take this opportunity to greatly thank the great people of Gatundu North for the opportunity to serve them as their first female MP for the last 5 years.

"We may not have been able to do everything but no doubt we gave our very best to ensure the transformation of our great constituency. May God bless you and I will always remain," Kibe stated.

Nairobi lawyer, Cliff Ombeta also penned a message after conceding defeat in the August 9 polls.

“Bonchari had a different vision from mine. Grateful for the run and the experience. Perhaps next time we may have the same view.

"Bonchari Enyia has and always will be in my heart. Those who believed in me, we will keep it alive.

"This will not be our end politically. Our vision was probably not the same with the ordinary Boncharian, therefore we must bring it back to them in a different dimension,” he said.

Naomi Shaban, who was an MP serving four terms, tasted her first ever election loss in the Taita Taveta constituency race in 20 years.

She announced via a WhatsApp Group belonging to her supporters that she had surrendered to Wiper Party candidate Bwire Okano.

"Good people, there is time for everything. Well done team Bwire.Thank you for giving me a chance to serve you for 20 years. My young brother Okano, I congratulate you," Shaban wrote.

Initially, it was thought that Narok Senator, Ledama Olekina, was set for a defeat. However, he announced on Twitter that he had retained his seat, even before the official results are announced by the IEBC.

"Thank you Narok County for your true love! THANK YOU VERY much for shaming people like Miguna Miguna, and Ahmednasir and re-electing me as your Senator! I Love you so much!!!" he wrote.
